Breaking: Cardinals Closing in on INF Ramón Urías
(First reported by Jeff Jones)

According to Jeff Jones, sources say the Cardinals met today with free agent infielder Ramón Urías and are closing in on a deal.

Urías, 31, is no stranger to the organization. Originally signed by St. Louis out of Mexico in 2018, he spent parts of two seasons in the Cardinals’ system before being claimed off waivers by Baltimore prior to 2020. Since then, he has carved out a reputation as a dependable, versatile infielder with occasional pop.

In 2025, Urías split time between Baltimore and Houston, hitting 11 home runs with a .675 OPS. While those numbers won’t jump off the page, they reflect a player who provides defensive flexibility — capable of handling second base, third base, and shortstop — and steady clubhouse presence.

For a Cardinals club navigating roster questions in the infield, this move would signal a preference for experience and versatility rather than flash. Urías has postseason experience, understands organizational expectations, and could fit as a right-handed complement in a platoon or utility role.

If finalized, it would represent a reunion years in the making — and perhaps a chance for Urías to contribute in a system where his professional career first took root.
