Farm Report: Campos Leads Springfield’s Big Night, Doyle Strikes Out Nine

Wednesday’s farm report belonged to Springfield.
The Cardinals pounded out 16 hits, scored 12 runs, and their pitching staff struck out 18 in a 12-2 win over Arkansas. Ryan Campos earned Player of the Day honors after going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk, while Liam Doyle earned Pitcher of the Day honors after striking out nine over five innings.
Palm Beach also picked up a win, Memphis dropped its second straight, and Peoria lost its fifth in a row.
The full-season affiliates finished 2-2.
Memphis Redbirds — Triple-A
Overall Record: 67-55
Second Half: 20-27, 8th in the International League West, 9.0 GB
Streak: L2
Jacksonville 5, Memphis 4
Memphis had the lead, but Jacksonville put together the decisive inning.
The Redbirds led 4-1 after four innings before the Jumbo Shrimp scored four runs in the sixth and held on for a 5-4 win at AutoZone Park.
Memphis managed only four hits, but Thomas Saggese supplied the big swing. Saggese went 1-for-2 with his 10th home run, three RBIs and two walks.
Victor Scott II tripled for the second straight day, walked and stole his 17th base. Leo Bernal singled, walked and scored. Nolan Gorman singled and scored. Brody Moore walked, scored and stole two bases.
On the mound, Jurrangelo Cijntje allowed one earned run over four innings, striking out four and walking three. The middle innings were the problem, as Ryan Murphy and Brycen Mautz were charged with four runs in the sixth.
The back end of the bullpen was sharp. Ryan Fernandez struck out three in a scoreless inning, and Hancel Rincón followed with two perfect innings and three strikeouts.
Takeaway: Memphis got a three-run homer from Saggese and strong late relief from Fernandez and Rincón, but the four-run sixth inning turned the game.
Springfield Cardinals — Double-A
Overall Record: 60-55
Second Half: 29-18, 1st in the Texas League North, 1.0 game ahead
Streak: W2
Springfield 12, Arkansas 2
Springfield had the best night in the system, and it was not close.
The Cardinals scored four runs in the second inning, added another in the third, and then blew the game open with six runs in the ninth. Springfield finished with 12 runs on 16 hits in a 12-2 win at Arkansas.
Ryan Campos earned Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day honors after going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.
His final line: 3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, BB
Campos hit his 12th home run and drove in runs 55, 56 and 57.
Tai Peete went 3-for-6 with a double, three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Rainiel Rodriguez continued his strong Double-A season, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs, raising his average to .311. Jack Gurevitch went 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk, and Zach Levenson added two hits and two RBIs. Dakota Harris drove in two, while Tre Richardson III scored twice.
On the mound, Liam Doyle was outstanding.
Doyle worked five innings, allowing one hit, one earned run and two walks while striking out nine.
His final line: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K
The bullpen kept the strikeout parade going. Jack Findlay struck out two in a scoreless inning, Nolan Sparks struck out the side in a perfect inning, Michael Watson struck out three in the eighth, and Darlin Saladin closed it with a scoreless ninth.
Springfield pitchers combined for 18 strikeouts.
Takeaway: Campos powered the offense, Doyle dominated, and Springfield strengthened its hold on first place.
Peoria Chiefs — High-A
Overall Record: 55-60
Second Half: 23-26, 5th in the Midwest League West, 7.5 GB
Streak: L5
Lansing 4, Peoria 3
Peoria stayed close again, but the Chiefs could not stop the losing streak.
The Chiefs scored twice in the third and once in the eighth, but Lansing answered with single runs in the sixth and eighth to hand Peoria a 4-3 loss.
Sammy Hernandez supplied the offense, going 2-for-4 with his 10th home run and two RBIs. Hernandez raised his average to .307 and OPS to 1.016.
Caden Ferraro had one of Peoria’s four hits, while Andrew Williamson also singled. Anyelo Encarnación walked twice, stole his 17th base and scored.
On the mound, Cade Crossland gave Peoria a strong strikeout outing, working 3.2 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.
His final line: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
The Chiefs’ bullpen could not quite hold it. Gerardo Salas allowed two runs over 1.2 innings, Zeke Wood worked 1.2 scoreless despite three walks, and Dylan Driessen allowed the deciding run in the eighth.
Takeaway: Hernandez homered and Crossland missed bats, but Peoria’s offense was held to four hits and the Chiefs have now lost five straight.
Palm Beach Cardinals — Low-A
Overall Record: 58-58
Second Half: 25-25, 2nd in the Florida State League East, 7.0 GB
Streak: W2
Palm Beach 8, Fort Myers 4
Palm Beach evened its overall record with a second straight win.
The Cardinals fell behind 1-0 in the first, then answered with four runs in the second and three more in the third to take control in an 8-4 win over Fort Myers.
Matthew Miura had another strong night, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Gabe Camacho went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. J.P. Cabrera drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double, while Trevor Haskins doubled, drove in a run, walked and stole his 19th base.
Alexander Frias added an RBI, and Heriberto Caraballo had a hit.
On the mound, Palm Beach had to navigate traffic, but the staff held Fort Myers to four runs. Jacob Haley allowed one run over three innings. Hendrick Caña struck out four over 2.2 innings, and Yadiel Batista followed with 1.1 innings and two strikeouts.
Jesús García allowed a run in 1.2 innings before Dallis Moran recorded the final out.
Takeaway: Palm Beach jumped ahead early and held on, with Miura, Camacho and Cabrera leading the offense.

He allowed only one hit and helped lead a Springfield staff that struck out 18 Arkansas hitters.
The Final Word
Springfield carried the night.
Campos had the biggest offensive line. Doyle had the best pitching line. The Cardinals scored 12 runs, collected 16 hits and struck out 18 Travelers hitters.
Palm Beach kept rolling with another win and moved back to .500 overall. Memphis let a lead slip away in the sixth. Peoria lost another close one and has now dropped five straight.
The system finished 2-2, but Springfield gave the farm report its headline.
