Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Week: José Suárez Brings the Natural Thunder for Peoria
José Suárez is starting to make people pay attention.
The High-A Peoria right fielder has been putting together an impressive summer, and this past week was his loudest statement yet. For his big week at the plate, Suárez has been named The Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Week.
Suárez appeared in five games and delivered the kind of production that jumps off the page. He went 9-for-20 with five runs scored, one double, three home runs, 10 RBI, two walks, and five strikeouts. His weekly slash line checked in at .450, with a massive 1.450 OPS.
That is not just a hot stretch. That is impact.
The power is what stands out most. Suárez has shown signs this season that his offensive profile is growing, and his power tool has taken a noticeable step forward with Peoria. Operating primarily as a right fielder, he has started to look more like the kind of corner outfield bat who can change a game with one swing.
On June 3, Suárez launched his eighth home run of the season, driving a deep fly ball to left field against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Two days later, he followed that up with another strong performance, delivering a clutch RBI hit on June 5.
That kind of production matters.
Suárez was not simply collecting empty hits. He was driving the baseball, producing runs, and giving Peoria a dangerous presence in the lineup. Three home runs and 10 RBI over five games tell the story well enough, but the bigger picture is even more encouraging.
There is a difference between having a good week and having a week that changes the way a player is viewed. Suárez had the latter.
Right field is an offensive position. The bat has to carry weight there, and this week Suárez did exactly that. He showed power, run production, and the ability to come through in key spots. For a player working to establish himself in the Cardinals’ system, that is exactly the kind of step forward you want to see.
The Cardinals have placed a heavy emphasis on swing decisions, development, and turning raw ability into consistent game production. Suárez’s week was a reminder that development does not always come quietly.
Sometimes it leaves the yard.
For now, José Suárez has earned the spotlight. His bat was one of the biggest stories in the Cardinals’ minor league system this week, and if this power surge continues, he will become one of the more interesting names to follow in Peoria.
José Suárez is The Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Week.
