Cardinals Add Young Right-Hander Jose Vega on Minor League Deal
St. Louis, MO
By Ray Mileur
The St. Louis Cardinals added another arm to the organization Friday, signing free-agent right-hander Jose Vega to a minor league contract.
Vega, listed by Minor League Baseball as a 6-foot, 214-pound right-hander from Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico, was born Feb. 1, 2009, making him one of the younger arms added to the Cardinals’ system this season. His official MiLB player page does not list any professional statistics yet, but it does show previous transaction activity with Diablos Rojos del México in 2025 before his signing with St. Louis.
The move appears to be a depth and development signing rather than an immediate upper-level roster addition. At this stage, the Cardinals are likely adding Vega as a long-range pitching project, giving the organization another young right-handed arm to evaluate within its player development system.
For a club that continues to shuffle pitching throughout the lower levels, these smaller transactions often do not draw much attention. Still, this is the kind of quiet addition that fits the broader work of building organizational depth one arm at a time.
