Cardinals Sign Third-Round Pick Caden Ferraro for $800,000
St. Louis, MO

The St. Louis Cardinals have officially signed third-round draft pick Caden Ferraro for an $800,000 signing bonus.
Ferraro, selected with the 86th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, signed for $143,600 below the assigned slot value of $943,600. The savings will give the Cardinals additional flexibility as they continue negotiating with the remaining members of their draft class.
The Texas Tech outfielder and first baseman was one of the most productive college hitters selected by the Cardinals this year. Ferraro batted .374 with a .481 on-base percentage and a .604 slugging percentage during the 2026 season, adding eight home runs and 46 RBIs.
His offensive production was built on more than batting average. Ferraro consistently reached base, controlled the strike zone and demonstrated the ability to drive the ball without sacrificing his overall approach at the plate.
The left-handed hitter also gives the Cardinals some defensive flexibility. While he was announced as an outfielder and first baseman, his bat will ultimately determine how quickly he advances through the minor league system.
Ferraro joins a Cardinals draft class that has received considerable praise for its combination of athleticism, upside and proven performance. While the organization used its first-round pick on high school outfielder Trevor Condon, Ferraro represents a more experienced college bat who could move through the lower levels at a faster pace.
Signing below slot does not necessarily reflect how the Cardinals value Ferraro. Under Major League Baseball’s bonus-pool system, teams often reach agreements with college players below their assigned values and redirect the savings toward difficult-to-sign high school prospects or later-round selections.
The Cardinals saved $440,000 by signing Condon for $5.16 million and another $143,600 with the Ferraro agreement. Together, those two deals have created $583,600 in bonus-pool flexibility.
That money could become important as the organization works to complete agreements with other members of the draft class before the July 27 signing deadline.
For Ferraro, the contract closes the book on a productive career at Texas Tech and begins his climb through the Cardinals’ farm system.
With an advanced approach, strong on-base skills and the ability to play multiple positions, Ferraro gives the Cardinals another polished hitter to develop—and another reason their 2026 draft class has generated so much optimism.
