In the Spotlight: Jesús Báez Brings Real Power to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Jesús Báez has reached the point where the numbers deserve a closer look.
Báez, the 21-year-old infielder for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals, has put together one of the more power-heavy seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor-league system. According to his MiLB Today player page, Báez is hitting .258 with an .838 OPS, 30 home runs, 84 RBIs and six stolen bases.
That is a loud season from any position.
From an infielder at Double-A, it is even more interesting.
Báez is currently listed as the Cardinals’ No. 21 prospect on MiLB Today, but his production suggests he has done plenty to raise his profile in 2026. The power is the headline. Thirty home runs and 84 RBIs will get a player noticed, especially in a system where upper-level offensive production has become one of the biggest stories of the season.
The Cardinals have had several hitters take steps forward this year, but Báez’s power production stands out because it has followed him to Double-A. He was assigned to Springfield from Peoria on June 23, and since then, he has continued to show that the bat can impact the baseball against better pitching.
That matters.
High-A production is encouraging. Double-A production starts to carry more weight. This is the level where pitchers have a better idea of how to attack hitters. Breaking balls are sharper, sequencing is more advanced, and mistakes become less predictable. For Báez to continue producing power in that environment is a meaningful development.
The season has not been perfect, and that should be said plainly.
Báez is not a finished product. His overall batting average sits at .258, and there is still work ahead in refining the offensive profile. But the strikeout total is not out of control for a power hitter, and the production has been too strong to dismiss. He has 69 strikeouts against 25 walks, a ratio that still leaves room for growth, but not one that overwhelms the rest of the line.
The power is real enough to keep watching.
For the Cardinals, Báez gives the system another upper-level bat with game-changing ability. He does not have to be perfect to be interesting. Players with 30-home-run power in the middle infield do not grow on fence posts. When one shows that kind of thump at Double-A, he earns a bigger spotlight.
There is also something valuable about run production that still speaks plain baseball.
Eighty-four RBIs tell us Báez has not just been hitting solo shots in empty innings. He has been driving in runs and producing in spots where the offense needs damage. The modern game can break everything down into advanced measurements, and many of them are useful, but there is still a place for a hitter who puts runs on the board.
Báez has done that all season.
His profile may still need polish, but his production has changed the tone. He is no longer just a lower-level name with tools. He is an active Double-A infielder with 30 home runs, an .838 OPS and enough right-handed power to make the Cardinals take a longer look.
That is why Jesús Báez belongs In the Spotlight.

You can dress the game up with all the modern numbers you want, and there is plenty of value in that. But when a 21-year-old infielder reaches 30 home runs and drives in 84 runs at this point in the season, you stop and take notice.
Jesús Báez has earned the spotlight with power that shows up on the scoreboard and the souvenirs. flying out of the park.
