Jalin Flores Is Heating Up Fast

A Big Week Puts Cardinals Infield Prospect in the Spotlight
There are hot streaks, and then there are weeks like the one Jalin Flores just put together.

The Peoria infielder earned The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Player of the Week honors after putting together one of the strongest offensive weeks by any hitter in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system this season, slashing .421/.500/1.053 with six extra-base hits, an eye-popping 1.553 OPS, and 11 RBIs.

That isn’t simply productive — that’s dominant.

Flores was in the middle of everything Peoria did offensively, driving the baseball with authority, showing improved strike-zone discipline, and delivering in run-producing situations. When runners were on base, Flores became the bat opposing pitchers wanted no part of.

That’s what stands out most about this week’s performance — it wasn’t empty production. It was a meaningful offense.

He changed games.

The extra-base power surge is especially encouraging. Flores has long shown flashes of offensive upside, but when gap power begins turning into true damage at the plate, prospects start climbing rankings in a hurry. Six extra-base hits in one week shows the ball is jumping off his bat.

The .500 on-base percentage also stands out.

Baseball traditionalists appreciate hitters who grind out at-bats, work counts and make pitchers labor. Flores demonstrated all of that this week. He did not just swing early or attack mistakes — he controlled at-bats.

That’s maturity.

At a time when the Cardinals’ farm system is looking for impact position players to separate themselves, Flores made a statement.

For one week, he wasn’t just good.

He was the best hitter in the organization.

The Cardinals have a lot of intriguing young talent moving through the pipeline, but weeks like this are how prospects force their way into the conversation.

Jalin Flores just did exactly that.
