Quinn Mathews Named Cardinals Chronicle MiLB Pitcher of the Week

Quinn Mathews keeps stacking dominant outings, and once again, he stands above the rest of the Cardinals’ minor league pitching staff.

The Memphis Redbirds left-hander is The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Pitcher of the Week after delivering seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Mathews faced just two batters over the minimum and finished the week with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.57 WHIP. He did not allow a home run and kept hitters off balance throughout the outing with strong command, changing speeds, and the confidence to attack the strike zone.

It was another reminder of why Mathews remains one of the most important arms in the Cardinals’ farm system.

The numbers speak for themselves, but the manner in which Mathews produced them was just as impressive. He controlled the game from the opening inning, limited hard contact, and never allowed the opposing lineup to build any real momentum.

Braden Davis also turned in a strong week for Double-A Springfield, working 8 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and a 2.16 ERA. The eight walks raised his WHIP to 1.44, but his ability to miss bats and limit damage kept him firmly in consideration.

Jurrangelo Cijntje continued his steady work at Springfield, allowing two earned runs over six innings while striking out eight and issuing only one walk. His 0.83 WHIP was among the best in the system for the week.

Tanner Franklin also deserves recognition after striking out nine without issuing a walk over five innings for High-A Peoria. He allowed one earned run and finished with a 1.80 ERA.

Scott Blewett and Liam Best both posted scoreless weeks as well. Blewett allowed only two hits over 4 1/3 innings for Memphis, while Best was perfect across 3 1/3 innings for Low-A Palm Beach.

There were several deserving candidates, but Mathews separated himself with the strongest combination of length, command, run prevention, and efficiency.

Once again, Quinn Mathews is The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Pitcher of the Week.
