Cardinal Chronicle Pitcher of the Day: Brandon Clarke Misses Bats in Peoria Win

Brandon Clarke gave Peoria the swing-and-miss it needed Wednesday night.

Clarke, the MLB Pipeline No. 7 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, worked 3.2 innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs and one walk while striking out six in the Chiefs’ 7-2 win over Quad Cities.

His final line: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

It was not a long start, but it was an effective one.

Clarke struck out six of the 15 batters he faced, limited Quad Cities to three hits, and left with Peoria in position to finish the night. The Chiefs had already built a lead behind a six-run third inning, and Clarke made sure the River Bandits did not take it back.

The bullpen took it from there.

Nelfy Ynfante, Trey Pooser, Liam Best and Patrick Galle combined for 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out six.

That made it a complete pitching night for Peoria.

Clarke set the tone.
The bullpen finished it.
The Chiefs won it.

Six strikeouts.
One walk.
Three hits allowed.
A Peoria win.

That is a Pitcher of the Day performance.
