Brian Holiday deserved a better ending Friday night.

Holiday earned Cardinal Chronicle Pitcher of the Day honors after giving Peoria seven strong innings in the Chiefs’ 6-4 loss to Quad Cities at Dozer Park.

His final line: 7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

That is a winning line, even if the scoreboard did not hold up.

Holiday allowed only three hits across seven innings, walked one and struck out six. He faced 26 batters, threw 92 pitches, 63 for strikes, and left the Chiefs in position to win the game.

Peoria’s offense gave him support early.

Andrew Williamson went 2-for-4 with two home runs, two RBIs and two runs scored. Yairo Padilla also homered and drove in a run, while Caden Ferraro doubled, walked and scored.

The Chiefs carried a 4-3 lead into the ninth, but Quad Cities scored three runs in the final inning to steal it. That loss should not take away from what Holiday did.

Seven innings.
Three hits allowed.
One earned run.
Six strikeouts.
One walk.

That is a Pitcher of the Day performance.
