Cardinal Chronicle Pitcher of the Day: Jacob Odle Strikes Out 12 in Peoria Win

Jacob Odle missed bats all night with his swing and miss stuff.

Odle, the MLB Pipeline No. 13 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, gave Peoria the best pitching performance on the farm Thursday, striking out 12 over five innings in the Chiefs’ 5-3 win over Quad Cities.

His final line: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 12 K

That is a strikeout night or a week for some.

Odle allowed only two hits, and while the three walks pushed his pitch count, he kept overpowering Quad Cities hitters. He faced 20 batters and struck out 12 of them, giving Peoria a chance to take control of the game.

The Chiefs backed him with just enough offense.

Tristan Bissetta homered, doubled, drove in three and scored twice. Anyelo Encarnación also homered and drove in two. Peoria scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth, and the pitching staff made it stand.

The bullpen finished the job behind Odle. Gerardo Salas, Dylan Driessen and Rubén Menes combined for four innings, allowing one unearned run while Peoria pitchers held Quad Cities to three hits and struck out 15 overall.

But this night belonged to Odle on the mound.

Twelve strikeouts.
Two hits allowed.
Five innings.
A Peoria win.
