Cardinal Chronicle Pitcher of the Day: Jacob Odle Sets the Tone in Peoria’s One-Hit Shutout

Jacob Odle gave Peoria the start it needed Friday night.

Odle, the MLB Pipeline No. 13 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, worked 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and five walks while striking out seven in Peoria’s 8-0 win over West Michigan.

His final line: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 7 K

It was not a spotless outing because of the walks, but it was a very effective one.

Odle kept West Michigan off the board, limited the damage, missed bats and handed the game to a bullpen that finished the job. The Whitecaps managed only one hit all night, and Peoria’s pitching staff piled up 17 strikeouts.

That is the story.

One hit allowed by the staff.
No runs allowed.
Seventeen strikeouts.
A clean 8-0 win.

After Odle left, Bobby Olsen, Nate Dohm and Christian Worley finished the shutout. Worley was especially sharp, striking out six over two perfect innings to close it out.

Peoria’s offense gave the pitching staff plenty of room early. Andrew Williamson homered and drove in three, while Brayden Smith homered and drove in four as the Chiefs scored eight runs over the first three innings.

But the pitching headline belonged to Odle.

He set the tone.
He missed bats.
He allowed one hit.
He did not allow a run.

That is a Pitcher of the Day performance.
