Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day: Anyelo Encarnación Fills the Box Score for Peoria
St. Louis, MO
By Ray Mileur
Anyelo Encarnación gave Peoria the kind of night that jumps off the page.
The Chiefs second baseman went 4-for-4 with two triples, a double, an RBI and three runs scored in Peoria’s 7-4 win over Lansing on Friday night.
His final line: 4-for-4, 2 3B, 2B, RBI, 3 R
That is a complete offensive night.
Four hits.
Three extra-base hits.
Two triples.
Three runs scored.
Encarnación was in the middle of everything as Peoria snapped its losing streak and finished with 14 hits. The Chiefs scored in five different innings, and Encarnación helped keep pressure on Lansing all night.
It was not just one swing. It was constant production.
He doubled. He tripled twice. He reached base every time he came to the plate. And when Peoria needed traffic, he was there. When the Chiefs needed someone to score, he did that too.
Andrew Williamson also had a big night with a home run, a double and three RBIs, but Encarnación’s four-hit performance led the way.
For Peoria, this was a needed win.
For Encarnación, it was a standout night.
And for the Cardinals’ system, it was the best offensive line on a night when all four full-season affiliates landed in the win column.
