Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day: Brayden Smith Powers Peoria’s Wild Extra-Inning Win

Brayden Smith had the biggest offensive night in the Cardinals’ system Saturday.

Smith went 5-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored in Peoria’s wild 13-10, 11-inning win over West Michigan.

His final line: 5-for-6, HR, 3 RBI, R

That is a night, a week for some players.

Five hits.
A home run.
Three RBIs.
An extra-inning win.

Peoria needed every bit of it. The Chiefs scored three runs in the third, two in the eighth, two more in the 10th and then exploded for six runs in the 11th before holding on in the bottom half.

Smith was right in the middle of a Peoria offense that finished with 13 runs on 13 hits and four home runs. Caden Ferraro, Cade McGee and Tristan Bissetta also went deep, but Smith’s five-hit night stood above the rest.

It was the kind of performance that changes a game, especially one that went sideways, back and forth, and deep into extra innings.

Peoria had to keep answering.

Smith kept hitting.

By the end of the night, the Chiefs had a wild win, and Smith had the best offensive line in the system.

That is a Player of the Day performance.
