MiLB Player of the Day: Cade McGee, the Peoria Chiefs Slugger

Cade McGee is The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Player of the Day after powering Peoria to its fifth straight win Saturday night.
McGee homered twice in the Chiefs’ 5-0 win over Beloit at Dozer Park, providing the early thunder and giving Jacob Odle more than enough run support in one of Peoria’s cleanest wins of the season. Peoria remained unbeaten in June at 5-0 and moved to 29-27 with the victory.
McGee got the scoring started in the first inning with a solo home run. Then, in the third, he went deep again — a two-run shot that stretched Peoria’s lead to 4-0 and gave the Chiefs complete control of the game.
That is how you set the tone.
Leonardo Bernal deserves a strong mention after homering for Memphis and finishing with a double, two runs scored and his seventh home run of the season in the Redbirds’ loss to Louisville. But McGee’s two-homer night in a shutout win gets the nod.
Old School Take
Two swings. Three runs. A win.
There is not much need to dress that up. McGee put Peoria on top early, then came back and added the kind of swing that lets a pitcher attack the zone with a lead. That is winning baseball.
The power has been on display of late, on June 4, 2026: he crushed a 3-run home run (his 4th of the season) on a fly ball to center field against Beloit.
Then he showcased his reliable extra-base power, logging his 9th double of the season on May 20 and continuous multi-run homers throughout late May/
His prospect stock is rising.
