Minor League Player of the Day: Dakota Harris
St. Louis, MO
By Ray Mileur
Dakota Harris was right in the middle of Springfield’s best offensive night of the week.
Harris is The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Player of the Day after going 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs in the Cardinals’ 10-4 win over the Wichita Wind Surge on Friday night at Equity Bank Park.
Springfield finished the night with 18 hits, and Harris had four of them.
That is a good night.
The Cardinals needed one, too. Springfield has played plenty of high-stress baseball lately, with late leads, one-run losses and games that seemed to turn sideways in a hurry. Friday was different. Chen-Wei Lin gave the Cardinals six hitless innings, and the offense gave him plenty of room to work.
Harris helped make sure of that.
His two doubles and four RBIs gave Springfield the kind of run production that changes a game. He was not just collecting hits. He was driving in runs, extending innings and helping turn a strong pitching performance into a comfortable win.
That matters.
The Cardinals had several players contribute. Jon Jon Gazdar went 4-for-6 out of the leadoff spot and kept traffic on the bases all night. Ryan Campos extended his hitting streak to 10 games and drove in his team-leading 40th run of the season.
But Harris had the biggest offensive line.
Four hits.
Two doubles.
Four RBIs.
That is the kind of production that earns the daily honor.
Springfield has been searching for more complete wins, the kind where the pitching and offense show up on the same night. Friday was one of those games. Lin set the tone on the mound, and Harris gave the Cardinals the offensive punch to back him.
For Harris, it was a reminder of what he can bring when the bat is working. He put the ball in play with authority, found gaps, drove in runs and helped Springfield take control of the game.
That is a complete offensive night.
Old School Take
A four-hit game gets your attention.
A four-hit game with two doubles and four RBIs wins you the day.
Dakota Harris did not just have a nice night at the plate. He helped Springfield turn a good pitching performance into a win.
That is run production.
That is impact.
That is why Dakota Harris is The Cardinal Chronicle Minor League Player of the Day.
