Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day: Jesús Báez Delivers Four Hits as Springfield Keeps Rolling

Jesús Báez keeps swinging his way into the conversation.

Báez, the MLB Pipeline No. 21 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, had the best offensive night on the farm Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base in Springfield’s 3-2 win over Corpus Christi.

His final line: 4-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, R, SB

That is a complete night for a player, a week for some players.

Springfield scored once in the first inning and twice more in the fifth, and Báez was right in the middle of it. The Cardinals finished with 12 hits, but Báez had four of them, including one of Springfield’s two home runs.

Josiah Ragsdale, the MLB Pipeline No. 10 prospect, also went deep and drove in a run. Rainiel Rodriguez, the MLB Pipeline No. 1 prospect, added two hits and a walk. But Báez had the loudest line of the night.

Four hits.
A home run.
Two RBIs.
A stolen base.
A one-run Springfield win.

That is the kind of line that jumps off the page.

Báez’s season line is now listed at .276 with a .903 OPS, 36 home runs and 98 RBIs, and the power production continues to be one of the bigger stories in the Cardinals’ system.

Springfield keeps winning, and Báez keeps producing.

That is a Player of the Day performance.
