Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day: Josiah Ragsdale Reaches Five Times as Springfield Wins 10th Straight
St. Louis, MO
By Ray Mileur
Josiah Ragsdale did not just have a big night Friday.
He had the kind of night that keeps an offense moving from the first inning to the last.
Ragsdale, the MLB Pipeline No. 10 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, an RBI, three runs scored and three walks in Springfield’s 10-6 win over San Antonio at Route 66 Stadium.
His final line: 2-for-2, HR, 2B, RBI, 3 R, 3 BB
That is reaching base all night long.
A home run.
A double.
Three walks.
Three runs scored.
Five times on base.
Ragsdale doubled, homered, walked three times and scored three of Springfield’s 10 runs as the Cardinals stretched their winning streak to 10 games.
Springfield jumped on San Antonio early with five runs in the first inning and two more in the second, and Ragsdale was right in the middle of another loud night from a lineup that keeps finding ways to put pressure on opposing pitching.
He was not alone.
Won-Bin Cho went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Tai Peete added two hits, two runs scored and a walk. Rainiel Rodriguez reached three times with a hit and two walks. Ryan Campos, Trey Paige and Jon Jon Gazdar each drove in a run.
But the most complete offensive line belonged to Ragsdale.
He hit for power.
He reached base.
He scored.
He helped keep innings alive.
For a Springfield club that has become the story of the Cardinals’ system, Ragsdale delivered another reminder of why his bat belongs in the conversation.
That is a Player of the Day performance.
