Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day: Tre Richardson III Powers Springfield in Big Win

Tre Richardson III put together the kind of complete offensive night that earns the spotlight.

Richardson is the Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day after helping lead Springfield to a 9-2 win over Wichita on Sunday night at Route 66 Stadium.

His final line: 2-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB

Richardson hit his sixth home run of the season, added his fourth double, drove in two runs, scored twice, drew a walk and stole his 16th base. Power, patience, run production and speed all showed up in one night.

Springfield had plenty of offense to go around. The Cardinals hit four home runs, with Jesús Báez, Rainiel Rodriguez, Won-Bin Cho and Richardson all going deep. Rainiel Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a homer, double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jesús Báez reached base four times and hit his 14th homer. Cho added his 11th homer, drove in two and walked twice.

But Richardson did a little bit of everything.

He reached base three times, delivered extra-base damage, helped drive the offense and added pressure on the bases. In a lineup that was loud from top to bottom, his night stood out because it was complete.

Springfield scored in five different innings and never let Wichita settle in. The Cardinals jumped ahead in the first, added two in the third, two more in the fourth, another in the sixth and three in the seventh.

On the mound, Braden Davis struck out seven over 3.2 innings, and the bullpen took it from there. Springfield relievers combined for 5.1 scoreless, hitless innings, giving the offense plenty of room to finish the night.

The win pushed Springfield to 53-48 overall and 22-11 in the second half, keeping the Cardinals alone in first place in the Texas League North.

A four-homer night.
A first-place club.
And a complete game at the plate from Tre Richardson III.

That earns the nod.
