Yordalin Peña Carries Palm Beach Offense With Four-RBI

Yordalin Peña did everything he could to drag Palm Beach back into the game Saturday night.

The Cardinals came up short in a 7-5 loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers, but Peña gave Palm Beach the kind of offensive performance that deserves its own spotlight. The Palm Beach outfielder went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBIs and a run scored, accounting for nearly all of the Cardinals’ offense.

On a night when Palm Beach managed only four hits as a team, Peña had two of them.

That tells the story.

The Cardinals fell behind early, trailing 3-0 after the second inning and 4-0 after the fourth. The offense was struggling to find traction, and Lakeland had control of the game. Peña helped change that. His bat gave Palm Beach life, driving in four of the club’s five runs and keeping the Cardinals close enough to make the Flying Tigers work for it.

His 11th home run of the season and 17th double showed both sides of the damage he can do. The power showed up. The run production showed up. And for a lineup that struck out 14 times, Peña’s contact and production stood apart.

That is what made his night so valuable.

Not every Player of the Day comes from a winning clubhouse. Sometimes the best individual performance happens in a loss, and Saturday night was one of those cases. Peña
