Dylan Driessen, from the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, the 18th round of the 2025 draft, earns The Cardinal Chronicle’s Pitcher of the Day honors after delivering 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Palm Beach’s 7-6 walk-off win over Lakeland on Saturday night.

This was not mop-up work. This was high-value relief in a game that was sitting on the edge.

Palm Beach had built an early lead, but Lakeland rallied back, tied the game, and eventually pushed ahead. The Cardinals needed someone to stop the bleeding and give the offense a chance to answer. Driessen did exactly that.

He worked 2.1 scoreless innings, struck out four, and kept Lakeland off the board late. That gave Palm Beach the breathing room it needed to tie the game in the seventh and win it in the ninth on Chase Heath’s walk-off infield single.

There are nights when the best pitching line belongs to the starter, and there are nights when the most important innings come from the bullpen. Saturday was the latter.

Brycen Mautz deserves strong mention after allowing just one unearned run and striking out seven for Memphis. Christian Worley also gave Peoria two scoreless innings in the Chiefs’ 8-3 win over Wisconsin. But Driessen’s work came in the tightest spot of the night, and it helped Palm Beach walk off with another win.

That is winning baseball. Hold the line, trust the offense, and give your club a chance.
