MiLB Pitcher of the Week: RHP Brycen Mautz, Memphis

There were a number of strong pitching performances across the Cardinals’ farm system this week.

But no outing was more complete than the one delivered by Brycen Mautz.

The Cardinals’ No. 21 prospect turned in his best start of the young season for Triple-A Memphis, working six innings and allowing just one run — none of it earned — on three hits. He struck out five, walked two, and, just as importantly, stayed in control of the game from start to finish.

That matters at this level.

Mautz didn’t overpower hitters with velocity alone. Instead, he leaned heavily on his slider, using it as a put-away pitch and generating consistent swing-and-miss. The approach kept opposing hitters off balance and allowed him to work efficiently through six innings without extended trouble.

It was the kind of outing that shows growth.

For a pitcher adjusting to the demands of Triple-A, the ability to limit damage, manage innings, and maintain composure is often more telling than a high strikeout total. Mautz checked each of those boxes, delivering a performance that gave Memphis exactly what it needed.

There were more electric moments elsewhere in the system this week.

But when it came to a complete, controlled performance at the highest level, Brycen Mautz stood alone.

And that was enough to make him the Cardinals’ Minor League Pitcher of the Week.
