Ryan Campos Powers Springfield Past Corpus Christi

Ryan Campos earns The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Player of the Day honors after helping lead Springfield to a 10-6 win over Corpus Christi on Wednesday at Route 66 Stadium.

Campos went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs, giving Springfield another productive bat in the middle of the order and helping the Cardinals secure their second straight victory.

The home run was Campos’ second in as many games, a good sign for a Springfield club still trying to build some traction after a slow start to the season. In a game that featured plenty of offense, extra-base hits and defensive mistakes on both sides, Campos provided the kind of steady production that helps turn a loose game into a win.

Springfield improved to 9-19 with the victory, and while there is still plenty of ground to make up in the Texas League North, back-to-back wins matter. Campos’ bat was right in the middle of it.

Honorable Mentions

Blaze Jordan, Memphis — Hit a 415-foot two-run homer, his eighth of the season, in the Redbirds’ 3-1 win over Toledo in the second game of the doubleheader.

Colton Ledbetter, Memphis — Went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the opener against Toledo.

Old School Take

Campos did what good hitters are supposed to do — he drove the baseball, drove in runs and helped his club win. That is still the measure, no matter how many new numbers get stapled to the back of a baseball card.
