Ryan Weingartner Goes Back-to-Back as Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day
For the second straight day, the Palm Beach outfielder earns Cardinal Chronicle Minor League Player of the Day honors, this time after helping power the Cardinals to a 6-2 win over Daytona in Sunday’s series finale at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Weingartner delivered the big swing early, launching a three-run home run in the first inning after Lars Nootbaar singled and Michael Dattalo reached base. The homer, his third of the season, gave Palm Beach a 3-0 lead before Daytona ever had much of a chance to settle in.
That was not his only contribution. Weingartner later drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning as Palm Beach added insurance and finished off a series in which the Cardinals took five of six from Daytona.
It was the kind of performance that does not need much dressing up. A big early swing. A run-producing plate appearance late. A win for the club. That checks the boxes.
For Weingartner, the back-to-back honors say something about more than one good day. They point to a player putting together quality at-bats, producing in key spots and helping Palm Beach keep pressure on the top of the Florida State League East.
Palm Beach has been one of the stronger stories in the Cardinals’ lower levels, and Weingartner has put himself right in the middle of that conversation.
Old School Take: Back-to-back Player of the Day honors are not handed out for decoration. Weingartner has earned them the old-fashioned way — by driving in runs, taking good at-bats and helping his club win ballgames.
