Springfield Gets Rare Memorial Day Monday Matinee Against Wichita
St. Louis, MO
By Ray Mileur
The Springfield Cardinals will do something Monday they almost never do during the regular season — play baseball on a Monday.
Springfield hosts the Wichita Wind Surge at 4:35 p.m. on Memorial Day, giving fans in the Ozarks a holiday matinee and the club’s only Monday game of the 2026 season. For a league built around Tuesday-through-Sunday series, that alone makes this one stand out on the schedule.
The matchup also comes with one of the more unique promotions of the year. The Cardinals will hold a Lucky Fan Giveaway featuring three authentic 2025 Texas League Championship Rings, the same style of ring presented to the players after Springfield’s championship season.
All fans entering the ballpark will receive a free raffle ticket for one ring. A second ring will be available through separate raffle-ticket purchases, while a third will be offered through an online auction.
It is a fitting Memorial Day setting — baseball in the afternoon, summer beginning to stir in the Ozarks, and a championship reminder from one of the proudest seasons in Springfield Cardinals history.
The holiday game also gives fans a chance to reconnect with the defending Texas League champions in a setting that feels a little different from the usual weekday night at Hammons Field. Monday baseball is rare. Memorial Day baseball has its own old-fashioned rhythm. Add in the ring giveaway, and Springfield has turned this one into more than just another game on the calendar.
The Cardinals and Wind Surge are scheduled for a 4:35 p.m. first pitch.
