Farm Report: Peoria Rallies, Palm Beach Wins Again, Henderson Sets Tone for Memphis

Sunday’s farm report had a little bit of everything.
Memphis beat Nashville behind 12 hits and 4.2 no-hit innings from Ixan Henderson. Peoria rallied late to beat Quad Cities, 9-8, with Brayden Smith leading the offense. Palm Beach won its second straight, using a six-run eighth inning to beat Jupiter. Springfield dropped its third straight despite 10 hits and 14 strikeouts from the pitching staff.
The full-season affiliates finished 3-1.
Memphis Redbirds — Triple-A
Overall Record: 63-51
Second Half: 16-23, 8th in the International League West, 9.0 GB
Streak: W1
Memphis 7, Nashville 3
Memphis got back in the win column with a 7-3 win over Nashville at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds scored in the first, third, fourth and eighth innings, using a 12-hit attack and an aggressive day on the bases to beat the Sounds.
Ixan Henderson earned Cardinal Chronicle Pitcher of the Day honors after working 4.2 no-hit, scoreless innings. He walked four and did not record a strikeout, so the line had some traffic, but Nashville could not square him up.
His final line:
4.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
That is not a line you see every day.
Offensively, Nolan Gorman went 2-for-5 with his 11th home run of the season. Graysen Tarlow went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk, setting the table from the bottom of the order. Leo Bernal drove in two runs, while Ramon Mendoza doubled and drove in a run.
Colton Ledbetter had two hits and stole his 19th base. Victor Scott II, Ramón Urías, Bernal, Chase Davis and Brody Moore also stole bases as Memphis swiped six bags on the day.
Ryan Fernandez, Cade Winquest and Brandt Thompson finished the final 4.1 innings, with Thompson allowing three runs late before the Redbirds closed it out.
Takeaway: Memphis got a strong start from Henderson, plenty of traffic from the offense and a rare six-steal day. That will work.
Springfield Cardinals — Double-A
Overall Record: 55-52
Second Half: 24-15, 1st in the Texas League North
Streak: L3
San Antonio 7, Springfield 4
Springfield had enough offense to stay in it, but one bad inning turned the game.
The Cardinals scored in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings, but San Antonio put up four runs in the sixth and beat Springfield, 7-4.
Rainiel Rodriguez had a strong day, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Tai Peete went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, while Won-Bin Cho came off the bench and went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Deniel Ortiz hit his fifth home run of the season. Ryan Campos doubled, scored and stole his 15th base. Jesús Báez added an RBI single, and Dakota Harris chipped in a hit.
On the mound, the Cardinals struck out 14, but walks and one key inning hurt. Braden Davis allowed three runs over 3.1 innings, walking four and striking out four. Andrew Schultz struck out two in two-thirds of an inning, Darlin Saladin struck out two in a scoreless inning, and Randel Clemente added two strikeouts in a clean frame.
The game got away in the sixth, when San Antonio scored four runs against José Davila, though all four were unearned.
Takeaway: Springfield had 10 hits and 14 strikeouts from the staff, but the sixth inning decided it. The Cardinals still remain alone in first place, but the losing streak is now three.
Peoria Chiefs — High-A
Overall Record: 53-54
Second Half: 21-20, 5th in the Midwest League West, 3.5 GB
Streak: W1
Peoria 9, Quad Cities 8
Peoria needed a late push, and the Chiefs found one.
Down 8-6 entering the bottom of the eighth, Peoria scored three times and beat Quad Cities, 9-8, at Dozer Park.
Brayden Smith earned Cardinal Chronicle Player of the Day honors after going 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.
His final line:
3-for-5, 2 2B, RBI, 2 R
Smith was part of a 15-hit day for the Chiefs.
José Suárez went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Michael Dattalo had two hits and two RBIs. Cade McGee reached four times with two hits, two walks and a triple. Alex Birge went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Ian Petrutz doubled and drove in two.
Yordalin Peña doubled, drove in a run and scored twice. Tristan Bissetta also drove in a run.
On the mound, Jacob Odle had a rough start, allowing five runs over three innings. Trey Pooser and Bobby Olsen each allowed runs in relief, but Zeke Wood and Nelfy Ynfante combined to finish the final two innings without allowing a run.
Takeaway: This was not clean, but Peoria hit its way through it. Fifteen hits, six doubles, a triple and a three-run eighth made the difference.
Palm Beach Cardinals — Low-A
Overall Record: 54-53
Second Half: standings not included in supplied table
Streak: W2
Palm Beach 8, Jupiter 4
Palm Beach has found its footing again.
The Cardinals beat Jupiter, 8-4, scoring two runs in the sixth and then breaking the game open with six more in the eighth.
Ryan Mitchell led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Yairo Padilla doubled, walked and scored twice. Sebastian Dos Santos drove in two runs, while Alexander Frias, Gabe Camacho and J.P. Cabrera each drove in one.
Miguel Hernández walked three times and scored. Frias also scored, while Palm Beach took advantage of six walks and three Jupiter errors.
On the mound, Keiverson Ramírez allowed two runs over 4.1 innings. Justin Militello struck out five over 1.2 scoreless innings, though he walked three. Joseph King was excellent, throwing two perfect innings with three strikeouts.
Jupiter scored twice in the ninth against Nathan Shinn, but Palm Beach had already built enough of a cushion.
Takeaway: Palm Beach has won two straight after a six-game skid. The offense did not need a big extra-base night — it cashed in traffic and let the bullpen carry the middle innings.

Peoria needed every bit of offense it could find, and Smith was right in the middle of the comeback.

It was an unusual pitching line, but no hits and no runs across 4.2 innings is still a strong day’s work.
The Final Word
Sunday was a good rebound day for the system.
Memphis got back in the win column. Peoria rallied late and won a one-run game. Palm Beach has now won two straight after a six-game losing streak.
Springfield was the only loss, and even there, the Cardinals had 10 hits and struck out 14 Missions hitters.
The headline goes to Peoria’s comeback and Brayden Smith’s three-hit day, but Ixan Henderson’s no-hit start for Memphis deserves plenty of attention too.
Three wins.
A late Peoria rally.
A second straight Palm Beach win.
And a no-hit start from Henderson.
That is a better way to close the week.
