Farm Report: Springfield Carried the Only Win

It was a rough night in Cardinal nation, but Sunday belonged to Springfield.
The Cardinals bounced back from the end of their 10-game winning streak by beating San Antonio, 8-6, at Route 66 Stadium. Memphis dropped another game in Charlotte, Peoria fell at West Michigan, and Palm Beach lost both ends of a doubleheader at Dunedin.
Sunday, the full-season affiliates went 1-4.
Jack Gurevitch, the MLB Pipeline No. 30 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, earned Hitter of the Day honors after going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for Springfield. Jack Martinez earned Pitcher of the Day honors after striking out seven over 5.2 innings for Peoria.
Memphis Redbirds — Triple-A
Overall Record: 71-61
Second Half: 24-33, 9th in the International League West, 10.0 GB
Streak: L3
Charlotte 5, Memphis 2
Memphis dropped its third straight, falling 5-2 to Charlotte.
The Redbirds scored single runs in the second and ninth innings, but Charlotte put up three in the second and added two more in the seventh to take control.
Memphis managed five hits. Dakota Harris doubled, Chase Davis singled and scored, Brody Moore went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk, and Graysen Tarlow drove in the other run. Victor Scott II walked and stole two bases, while Colton Ledbetter walked and stole his 25th base.
On the mound, Jurrangelo Cijntje, the MLB Pipeline No. 9 prospect, worked five innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out seven.
His final line: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Skylar Hales worked a scoreless inning, and Jared Shuster added 1.1 scoreless innings.
Takeaway: Cijntje missed bats, but Memphis had only five hits and lost its third straight.
Springfield Cardinals — Double-A
Overall Record: 69-56
Second Half: 38-19, 1st in the Texas League North, 6.0 games ahead
Streak: W1
Springfield 8, San Antonio 6
Springfield got right back in the win column.
One day after its 10-game winning streak ended, the Cardinals beat San Antonio, 8-6, behind three home runs and another productive day from the middle of the lineup. Springfield scored three runs in the second and five more in the fifth, then held on late.
Jack Gurevitch, the MLB Pipeline No. 30 prospect, had the biggest offensive line of the day, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
His final line: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
Rainiel Rodriguez, the MLB Pipeline No. 1 prospect, homered and drove in a run. Jon Jon Gazdar also homered and drove in a run. Josiah Ragsdale, the MLB Pipeline No. 10 prospect, went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk. Deniel Ortiz, the MLB Pipeline No. 27 prospect, went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Won-Bin Cho added a hit, a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Yhoiker Fajardo, the MLB Pipeline No. 11 prospect, worked five innings, allowing six hits, three runs, one earned, and two walks while striking out three.
His final line: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Randel Clemente struck out three in a scoreless inning, and José Davila worked a scoreless eighth before Jack Findlay finished the game.
Takeaway: Springfield answered Saturday’s loss with an 8-6 win and now leads the Texas League North by six games.
Peoria Chiefs — High-A
Overall Record: 60-65
Second Half: 28-31, 5th in the Midwest League West, 9.5 GB
Streak: L1
West Michigan 9, Peoria 1
Peoria could not follow up Saturday’s wild extra-inning win, falling 9-1 to West Michigan.
The Chiefs were held to four hits. Sammy Hernandez supplied the only run with his 11th home run of the season. Andrew Williamson, Anyelo Encarnación and Ryan Weingartner each added a hit.
Jack Martinez earned Pitcher of the Day honors despite the final score. He worked 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, four earned runs and no walks while striking out seven.
His final line: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
It was not a spotless outing, but Martinez's strike throwing and swing-and-miss stood out. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven before West Michigan broke the game open against the bullpen.
Takeaway: Martinez missed bats and avoided walks, but Peoria’s offense managed only one run in a 9-1 loss.
Palm Beach Cardinals — Low-A
Overall Record: 62-64
Second Half: 29-31, 2nd in the Florida State League East, 7.5 GB
Streak: L3
Dunedin 4, Palm Beach 3 — 7 innings
Dunedin 8, Palm Beach 3 — 7 innings
Palm Beach had a long day at Dunedin and dropped both ends of a doubleheader.
In the first game, the Cardinals lost 4-3. Palm Beach trailed 3-0, scored three times in the sixth to tie it, but Dunedin answered with the deciding run in the bottom half.
Sebastian Dos Santos, the MLB Pipeline No. 14 prospect, went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored and a walk. Miguel Hernández went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Alexander Frias, the MLB Pipeline No. 4 prospect, went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored, while Ryan Mitchell, the MLB Pipeline No. 24 prospect, had a hit, a walk and his 39th stolen base.
In the second game, Dunedin jumped ahead with seven runs in the second inning and beat Palm Beach, 8-3. Ryan Mitchell went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, a walk and two stolen bases, giving him 41 steals. Dee Kennedy drove in two runs and stole a base, while Matthew Miura added a hit and his 22nd stolen base.
Takeaway: Palm Beach dropped both games of the doubleheader, but Dos Santos drove in two in Game 1 and Mitchell stole three bases across the two games.

The Final Word
Springfield carried the only win on the day.
The Cardinals bounced back from Saturday’s loss, beat San Antonio and pushed their second-half lead in the Texas League North back to six games. Gurevitch homered and had three hits. Rainiel Rodriguez went deep. Deniel Ortiz added two hits. Fajardo gave Springfield five innings, and the bullpen held the game together.
Memphis lost its third straight. Peoria fell after Saturday’s wild win. Palm Beach dropped both ends of a doubleheader.
The affiliates finished 1-4 on the day.
