Trevor Haskins Delivers the Swing of the Night for Palm Beach

Trevor Haskins gave Palm Beach exactly what it needed Friday night — first a spark, then the hammer.

The Cardinals’ Single-A club was staring at a four-run deficit against Jupiter when Haskins stepped into the middle of the game’s biggest moment. Palm Beach had already worked its way back into the inning by taking advantage of walks and a hit batter, but the game still needed one clean swing to turn. Haskins provided it, driving a grand slam to left field in the fifth inning to send the Cardinals in front and change the direction of the night.

It was the decisive blow in Palm Beach’s 9-5 win over the Hammerheads, a victory that moved the Cardinals back into a tie for first place in the Florida State League East.

Haskins had already been involved in the scoring before the grand slam. In the second inning, after Cameron Nickens singled and advanced on a balk, Haskins lined a ball to right that helped bring home Palm Beach’s first run. Later, after his fifth-inning slam broke the game open, Haskins scored again in the seventh when Jupiter committed another costly mistake.

That gave Haskins a complete night in the middle of the Palm Beach order — run production early, the biggest swing of the game in the middle innings, and another run added later as the Cardinals kept pressure on the Hammerheads.

Palm Beach trailed 5-1 after four innings, and this was the kind of game that can quietly slip away on the road. Instead, the Cardinals waited out Jupiter’s wildness, put runners on base, and gave Haskins a chance to do real damage. He did not miss it.

For that, Trevor Haskins is The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Player of the Day.
