Trey Paige Delivers Springfield’s Headline Swing in Comeback Win

Trey Paige picked the right time to do his damage Monday night.

With most of the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league system off for the usual Monday break, Springfield carried the farm report by itself. Paige made sure the lone game on the schedule had a clear headline, delivering the decisive swing in the Cardinals’ 11-6 comeback win over the Wichita Wind Surge.

Paige earns The Cardinal Chronicle’s Player of the Day honors after going 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. His seventh-inning three-run homer turned a one-run deficit into a two-run Springfield lead and completed the key swing in a game the Cardinals once trailed 6-3.

Springfield had jumped ahead early, but Wichita answered with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take control. The Cardinals began climbing back in the sixth, then Paige delivered the blow that changed the night.

It was not just another home run in the box score. It was the swing that flipped the game.

Paige’s three-run shot gave Springfield an 8-6 lead, and the Cardinals added three more runs in the eighth to pull away. For a club still fighting through an uneven first half, that kind of late-game response matters. Springfield did not fold after losing the lead. The Cardinals answered, kept coming and finished the night with 11 runs on 12 hits.

Paige entered the game still trying to build consistency at the plate, but Monday was a reminder of the thump he can bring when he gets into one. The numbers for the night tell the story cleanly enough: two hits, two runs, three RBIs and the biggest swing of the game.

On a quiet farm-system Monday, Trey Paige gave Springfield — and The Cardinal Chronicle — the headline.
