MiLB Pitcher of the Day: Ty Van Dyke Gives Palm Beach Five Scoreless
St. Louis, MO
By Ray Mileur

Ty Van Dyke did everything a starting pitcher can do Thursday night except swing the bats himself.

The Palm Beach right-hander is The Cardinal Chronicle’s MiLB Pitcher of the Day after throwing five scoreless innings in the Cardinals’ 1-0 loss to Jupiter. Van Dyke allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out five, giving Palm Beach every chance to win a tight, low-scoring game.

There were other strong pitching performances in the system. Yhoiker Fajardo made a serious case after allowing one run over five innings with seven strikeouts for Peoria. Chen-Wei Lin also impressed, striking out eight over five innings for Springfield in the second game of a doubleheader.

But Van Dyke gets the call because he kept Jupiter off the board entirely and did it in a game where one run decided everything.

It was another steady outing from one of the more reliable lower-level arms in the Cardinals’ system. Even in a loss, five shutout innings with five strikeouts deserves the spotlight.

Sometimes the final score does not tell the whole story. Van Dyke’s line did.
