Bruce Zimmerman Keeps Memphis in the Fight
Not every strong outing comes with headlines.

Some just come a bulldog performance with five solid innings and a chance to win, like I saw last night in Memphis.

Bruce Zimmerman gave Redbirds exactly that Thursday night, working five innings and allowing just two runs in a game the Redbirds would eventually lose in extra innings. It won’t show up as a win in the box score, but it was the kind of start that does its job.

The damage against him came on one swing—a two-run home run—but outside of that, Zimmerman kept things under control. He worked efficiently, limited traffic, and most importantly, kept the game within reach long enough for the offense to respond late.

That’s the assignment at Triple-A. Keep your club in the game. Give them a chance in the late innings.

Zimmerman checked every box.

In a system where consistency and reliability matter just as much as upside, outings like this don’t get overlooked. They’re the foundation of a staff, especially at the highest level of the minors.

Old school take? You don’t always need dominance. Sometimes you just need a man willing to take the ball, do his job, and hand it off with the game still there to be won.

Zimmerman did exactly that.
