It is a weekly snapshot, not a final verdict. A hot week does not make a finished product, and a cold week does not bury a prospect. Baseball has a long memory, but the box scores still tell us where the momentum is moving right now.Here are three hitters and three pitchers trending up, followed by three hitters and three pitchers looking to turn the page.Who’s Hot — HittersJoshua Báez, CF, Memphis RedbirdsBáez is the clear headliner this week.In five games at Triple-A, Báez went 9-for-22 with eight runs, one double, one triple, five home runs, 11 RBIs, three walks and only four strikeouts. He hit .409 with a staggering 1.707 OPS.That is not just a hot week. That is a Triple-A bat kicking the door frame.The most encouraging part is not just the home run total, though five homers in five games will get anybody’s attention. It is the damage across the board. Báez drove in runs, scored runs, hit for extra bases and kept the strikeouts under control. For a power prospect, that last part matters.Won-Bin Cho, CF, Peoria ChiefsCho put together one of the best all-around weeks in the system.In four games for High-A Peoria, Cho went 6-for-12 with three doubles, two triples, seven RBIs, three walks and two stolen bases. He hit .500 with a 1.708 OPS.There was a little bit of everything here: contact, patience, speed, gap power and run production. Cho did not homer, but he still produced five extra-base hits in just 12 at-bats. That is how a player impacts a game without needing to leave the yard.Tre Richardson III, DH, Peoria ChiefsRichardson gets the third spot because of the blend of power, speed and production.In four games, he went 6-for-16 with six runs, one triple, two home runs, five RBIs and three stolen bases. He hit .375 with a 1.250 OPS.That is a strong offensive week by any measure. Richardson created pressure in multiple ways, and when a hitter can drive the ball while also taking extra bases, he becomes harder to game-plan against.Also worth noting: Luis Pino had a strong case here after hitting .538 with two homers and a 1.702 OPS. That is the kind of week that usually lands a player in the top three. This week, the board was just crowded.Who’s Hot — PitchersMason Molina, Springfield CardinalsMolina gets the nod at the top among pitchers this week.In 10 innings at Double-A, he allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out 13. He posted a 0.90 ERA and 0.80 WHIP.That is a clean, efficient week at an advanced level. The five walks keep it from being spotless, but the overall body of work was strong. When a pitcher allows only three hits over 10 innings and misses bats at that rate, he is doing more than surviving.Pete Hansen, Memphis RedbirdsHansen continues to give Memphis quality work.In 10 innings at Triple-A, he allowed seven hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out 11. He finished the week with a 0.90 ERA and 0.80 WHIP.The one walk stands out. That kind of command plays. Hansen did not overpower the week with gaudy velocity or wild swings, but he filled up the strike zone, limited damage and gave the Redbirds exactly what they needed.Cade Crossland, Palm Beach CardinalsCrossland’s ERA was higher than the others on the hot list, but the full line earns him a spot.In 14.1 innings for Palm Beach, he allowed nine hits, seven earned runs, four walks and struck out 22. He finished with a 4.40 ERA but an excellent 0.91 WHIP.The run prevention was not perfect, but the workload and strikeouts were too strong to ignore. Twenty-two strikeouts in 14.1 innings tells the story. Crossland missed bats, worked deep enough to matter and showed the kind of swing-and-miss profile that deserves attention.Who’s Cold — HittersDaniel Rojas, RF, Palm Beach CardinalsRojas had a rough week at the plate.In four games, he went 3-for-17 with one double, no RBIs, no walks and six strikeouts. He hit .176 with a .412 OPS.The lack of walks is the key concern here. When the hits are not falling, a hitter needs to find another way to reach base and keep innings moving. This week, Rojas did not do enough of that.Christian Martin, LF, Peoria ChiefsMartin also lands on the cold side after a quiet week in High-A.He went 3-for-16 with one double, no RBIs, no walks and five strikeouts. His line finished at .188 with a .438 OPS.There is no reason to overreact to four games, but it was a low-impact stretch. The next step is simple: get back to controlling the zone and force pitchers to work.Rainiel Rodriguez, C, Springfield CardinalsThis is not a panic item. It is just a cold week for one of the organization’s better young prospects.Rodriguez went 3-for-13 with two runs, one RBI, one walk and six strikeouts for Springfield. He hit .231 with a .516 OPS.For a young catcher adjusting at Double-A, weeks like this are part of the climb. The strikeouts were the issue. Rodriguez remains a major prospect, but this week belongs on the cold side because the production and contact were not there.Who’s Cold — PitchersEdwin Núñez, Springfield CardinalsNúñez had the toughest pitching line in the system this week.In one inning at Double-A, he allowed six hits, seven earned runs and three walks while striking out two. His ERA for the week was 63.00 with a 9.00 WHIP.There is no need to dress that up. It was a bad outing. The good news is that relievers can turn the page quickly. The next appearance matters more than the last line.Nate Dohm, Peoria ChiefsDohm had a difficult week for High-A Peoria.In 3.1 innings, he allowed eight hits, 10 earned runs and four walks while striking out four. He finished with a 27.00 ERA and 3.60 WHIP.The walks and hits piled up together, and that is usually where outings get away fast. Dohm has the arm to be better than this, but this was a week to reset.Leonel Sequera, Peoria ChiefsSequera’s week was hurt by traffic and the long ball.In 7.1 innings, he allowed 12 hits, 13 earned runs, six walks and five home runs. He did strike out 10, but the damage was heavy: a 15.95 ERA and 2.45 WHIP.The strikeouts show there is still stuff in the tank, but five home runs in 7.1 innings is the kind of number that demands correction. Keeping the ball in the yard has to be the first order of business.Old School TakeBáez was the story of the week, and there is no need to overcomplicate it. Five home runs in five games at Triple-A will make the front office look twice, whether they admit it publicly or not.On the pitching side, Molina and Hansen gave the system two strong upper-level performances, while Crossland’s strikeout total made his week hard to ignore even with the earned runs attached.As for the cold side, this is baseball. Everybody gets a bad week. The trick is not avoiding those weeks altogether. He also added an RBI triple, helping the Redbirds win a tight game and move back into first place in the International League West.That matters.There were other strong candidates across the Cardinals’ system. Won-Bin Cho drove in five runs for Peoria in a wild 13-11 loss at Wisconsin. Yordalin Peña went 4-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored in Palm Beach’s 9-3 win over Lakeland.Both deserved serious consideration.But Báez gets the nod because his production came in a first-place swing game for Memphis, and because he has turned this series into a loud reminder of the raw power that has always made him one of the more intriguing bats in the organization.Five home runs in a series will get your attention. Doing it at Triple-A, in games that matter in the standings, moves it beyond a hot streak and into something more meaningful.Báez has always had the tools. From there, he settled in, trusted his stuff and gave Palm Beach the kind of steady start that lets an offense breathe.The final line was sharp: five innings, one run, one walk and a career-high eight strikeouts.That is the part that stands out. Crossland did more than survive the outing. He controlled it. He missed bats, limited free traffic and gave Palm Beach the foundation it needed on a night when the offense eventually broke the game open with 14 hits.For a young pitcher, that response matters. Giving up an early homer can send an outing sideways in a hurry. Crossland did the opposite. &nbsp; The Cardinal Chronicle The Farm Report: Palm Beach Powers Up, Memphis Reclaims First, Peoria Falls in Wild One St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurThe St. Louis Cardinals’ farm system went 2-1 Thursday night, with Memphis winning in extra innings to climb back into first place, Palm Beach riding a 14-hit attack to a comfortable win, Peoria dropping a wild 13-11 game at Wisconsin, and Springfield losing its game to weather.Memphis Redbirds Memphis: 33-21, 1st, International League West Memphis 5, Omaha 4 — 10 inningsMemphis did what good clubs do on the road Thursday night. The Redbirds found a way.Behind another big night from Joshua Báez and a dominant finish from Luis Gastelum, Memphis beat Omaha 5-4 in 10 innings and moved back into first place in the International League standings, a half-game ahead of Rochester.Báez continued one of the loudest stretches in the system, homering for the third straight game against Omaha. His fourth-inning solo shot was his fifth home run of the series, and he followed it an inning later with his second triple of the season to drive in another run. Bligh Madris also homered, and five of Memphis’ six hits went for extra bases.The winning run came in the 10th when Matt Koperniak lifted a sacrifice fly to score Blaze Jordan. From there, Gastelum took care of the rest, striking out the side in the bottom of the 10th with the automatic runner already in scoring position. He worked two perfect innings, struck out five and earned his team-leading fifth win.Quinn Mathews also gave Memphis a strong start, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out eight, matching his season high.Springfield Cardinals Springfield: 20-27,&nbsp; 5th Place, 8.5 GB, Texas League North Springfield vs. Wichita — postponed, rainSpringfield’s Thursday game against Wichita was postponed because of inclement weather and wet field conditions at Route 66 Stadium. The Cardinals and Wind Surge are now scheduled to play a single-admission doubleheader Saturday, May 30, beginning at 4:05 p.m. Gates will open at 3:35 p.m.Both games are scheduled for seven innings. Game two will begin no earlier than 6:35 p.m., or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one if the opener runs past 6:05 p.m.Peoria Chiefs Peoria: 22-26, 6th Place, 8.0 GB, Midwest League West Wisconsin 13, Peoria 11Peoria had enough offense to win most nights. Thursday was not most nights.The Chiefs pounded out 14 hits and got a huge performance from Won-Bin Cho, but Wisconsin used a seven-run seventh inning to hand Peoria a 13-11 loss in Appleton. The game featured 24 combined runs, 25 hits and 20 walks, including 15 walks issued by Chiefs pitchers.Cho was the offensive story for Peoria, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. He tied the game in the fifth with a two-run double, then brought the Chiefs back within a run in the eighth with a bases-clearing triple. It was one of the best individual offensive performances of the night anywhere in the system, even in a loss.Luis Pino also had a strong night, driving in two runs with a second-inning single and later homering in the sixth to give Peoria a 5-4 lead. José Suárez added a two-run single in the seventh, putting the Chiefs ahead 7-5 before the game got away in the bottom half.Wisconsin’s seventh inning was the difference. The first seven Timber Rattlers reached base, and they pushed across seven runs on four hits and five walks to turn a Peoria lead into a 12-7 deficit. Trevor Haskins followed an inning later with a solo homer, his fourth of the season, to give Palm Beach the lead. The home run left the bat at 111.3 mph.Facundo Velasquez added an opposite-field homer in the fifth, and Yordalin Peña delivered the biggest offensive night for Palm Beach. Peña went 4-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Dattalo finished 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI, while Mejia scored three times and added two hits.Crossland gave the Cardinals exactly what they needed. Cardinal Chronicle There Is No Yadier Molina on the Horizon — And That May Be the Point St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurThe St. Louis Cardinals may have one of the deepest catching pipelines in baseball.What they do not have is another Yadier Molina.That is not a knock on Iván Herrera. It is not a dismissal of Pedro Pagés. It is not a slight against Jimmy Crooks, Leonardo Bernal or Rainiel Rodriguez. In fact, the Cardinals may be better positioned behind the plate than they have been at any point since Molina’s final years in St. Louis.But there is a difference between having catchers and having the catcher.For nearly two decades, Molina was more than a lineup card entry. He was the pitching staff’s security blanket, the manager’s extension on the field, the warning sign to every baserunner and the standard by which every Cardinals catcher since will be measured. That is a heavy shadow. It is also an unfair one.The Cardinals are not simply waiting for the next Molina to appear. They appear to be building something entirely different.Modern baseball has moved away from the old-school workhorse catcher. The days of one man catching 130-plus games, absorbing foul tips, blocking balls in the dirt, guiding a pitching staff and still being expected to produce offensively are largely gone. The physical toll is too great. The velocity is too high. The game planning is too detailed. The risk is too obvious. The background notes point directly to that shift, with the Cardinals’ current approach looking more like a catching committee than a search for one next franchise backstop.That does not mean catching matters less.It may matter more than ever.It just means clubs are now trying to spread the burden.In St. Louis, that has created a very different picture. Herrera brings the bat. Pagés brings the defensive stability. Yohel Pozo provides roster flexibility. Crooks and Bernal are pushing from Memphis. Rodriguez gives the system a high-upside name further down the ladder.That is not the old model. That is not one man taking the job and holding it for a generation.That is a catching department.Herrera may be the best offensive catcher in the organization, but his greatest value may come from keeping his bat in the lineup while not asking him to carry the full defensive load every night. Pagés may not bring the same offensive profile, but he gives the Cardinals a steadier defensive presence and a trusted hand for the pitching staff. Crooks and Bernal give the front office options. Rodriguez gives them hope.It is a good problem.But it is still not Yadi.Molina was rare because he combined durability, defense, arm strength, preparation, leadership and presence. He did not merely catch pitchers. He shaped them. He did not merely throw out runners. He discouraged them from trying. He did not merely play for the Cardinals. He became part of the club’s baseball identity.That kind of player is not developed on schedule. He is not replaced by committee. He is not found simply because a farm system has depth.He is discovered once in a generation, if a franchise is fortunate.The Cardinals can still build a strong catching future without finding another Molina. In fact, that may be the most realistic path forward. A Herrera-Pagés-Crooks-Bernal-Rodriguez pipeline gives St. Louis choices. It gives the front office trade leverage. It gives the club protection against injury. It gives the manager matchup options.What it does not give them is one unquestioned heir to the throne.And maybe that is where Cardinals fans need to separate memory from expectation.The standard Molina set should still matter. The Cardinals should still value defense, game-calling, toughness and leadership behind the plate. That is part of the franchise’s DNA. From Ted Simmons to Tony Peña to Tom Pagnozzi to Molina, St. Louis has always understood that catcher is not just another position.But asking the next generation to become Molina is asking them to chase a ghost.The better question is not whether the Cardinals have another Yadi coming.They don’t.The better question is whether they can take this unusual wave of catching depth and turn it into a championship-caliber advantage.That might mean Herrera becoming a middle-of-the-order bat who catches part time. It might mean Pagés handling the tougher defensive assignments. It might mean Crooks or Bernal forcing the issue. It might mean one of them eventually being traded for pitching help. It might mean Rodriguez becoming the long-term upside play.What it almost certainly will not mean is one catcher taking the ball 135 times a year and becoming the face of the franchise for the next 20 seasons.Those days are probably gone.Yadier Molina did not just leave a vacancy behind the plate.He left a reminder of what greatness looks like when it wears shin guards.The Cardinals may have answers coming.But they do not have another Yadi.And that is no insult to the next man up.It is just the truth. Cardinal Chronicle Oli Marmol’s Message Was Measured — But Was It Enough? St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurThere is a fine line between keeping your composure and letting another club know it can shove you around.After what unfolded in Milwaukee, the Cardinals now find themselves standing right on that line.The Brewers beat the Cardinals on the field. That part is not in dispute. Milwaukee shut out St. Louis 6-0 on Tuesday night, then followed it with another win Wednesday to complete a frustrating sweep. But the story did not stay between the lines. It spilled into the dugouts, into the postgame interviews, and directly into the middle of a division rivalry that no longer feels like a sleepy little Midwest disagreement.It started with Cardinals manager Oli Marmol accusing the Brewers of being too demonstrative in relaying signs from the dugout. Marmol said he warned Milwaukee about it during Tuesday’s game, saying the Cardinals believed the Brewers were crossing a line. Milwaukee reliever Abner Uribe later claimed Marmol’s gestures suggested the Cardinals might throw at Brewers hitters, including Christian Yelich and William Contreras. Marmol denied threatening to hit anyone.Then came Uribe’s response.After escaping the eighth inning with two runners aboard, Uribe turned toward the Cardinals’ dugout and delivered several crotch-chop gestures in a game Milwaukee already led 6-0. Brewers manager Pat Murphy publicly called the act “unacceptable” and said he was embarrassed by it. Uribe apologized to his teammates, manager, organization and fans — but notably not to the Cardinals.That matters.Not because the Cardinals should spend the rest of the week pearl-clutching over a bullpen celebration. Baseball has always had edge. It has always had stare-downs, dugout barking, inside fastballs, long memories and unwritten rules that somehow remain very much written in every clubhouse in America.But there is a difference between passion and disrespect. There is a difference between defending your teammates and showing up an opponent from the mound. And there is a difference between taking the high road and making it look like the other club owns the road.That is where Marmol’s response becomes the story.Marmol tried to lower the temperature. He said he did not want to blow the matter out of proportion. In a vacuum, that is a professional answer. It is the answer Major League Baseball prefers. It is the answer that avoids fines, suspensions and another round of national debate about whether baseball players are allowed to have emotions.But the Cardinals are not operating in a vacuum.They are in a division fight. They just got swept by Milwaukee. Their offense has gone missing. Their road trip turned ugly. And one of the Brewers’ relievers openly disrespected their dugout, then declined to apologize to them directly.That is not nothing.This does not mean the Cardinals needed to turn Wednesday afternoon into a beanball circus. Nobody needs fake toughness. Nobody needs a 97 mph message aimed at somebody’s ribs because a reliever acted like he was auditioning for Monday Night Raw. There is a difference between toughness and foolishness, and pitchers throwing at hitters is not the answer simply because talk radio needs a topic.But the Cardinals did need to answer.The answer could have come with the bats.
