He finished the month with a 1.35 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP, giving Palm Beach a swing-and-miss presence every time he took the mound.The strikeouts were the headline.Thirty-one strikeouts in 20 innings is the kind of number that jumps off the page, especially from a young left-hander still early in his professional career. Crossland did not just survive Low-A hitters in June. He overmatched them. The fastball played, the secondary stuff missed bats, and hitters struggled to square him up throughout the month.That last part matters.Crossland allowed only seven hits across 20 innings. They are snapshots.They reflect tools, age, level, production, health, proximity, scouting history and projection. Sometimes they reward what a player might become. Sometimes they reward what a player is doing right now. The best boards try to balance both.That is why comparing The Cardinal Chronicle’s updated Top 30 St. Louis Cardinals Prospect Rankings with MiLB Today’s Cardinals prospect list is useful.The two boards agree at the very top. After that, the differences begin to tell the story.MiLB Today’s board, based on the MLB Pipeland's rankings includes live season statistics and point totals, while The Cardinal Chronicle board leans more heavily into current movement, level, age, role, proximity and recent performance. Neither approach is wrong. They simply weigh the system through a different lens.Where We AgreeThe top three are identical.Rainiel Rodriguez is No. 1 on both boards. Liam Doyle is No. 2. Joshua Báez is No. 3.That tells us something important about the current state of the Cardinals’ system. Rodriguez, Doyle and Báez have separated themselves as the clear top tier.Rodriguez combines age, position and production as a teenage catcher in Double-A. MiLB Today ranks him No. 15, while The Cardinal Chronicle has him just outside the Top 30. He collected 27 hits in 93 at-bats and gave Memphis consistent middle-of-the-order thunder throughout the month.The power was the headline, and for good reason.Ten home runs and 27 RBIs in a single month will get attention anywhere, but it carries even more weight at Triple-A, where pitchers are older, scouting reports are sharper, and mistakes are fewer. Báez did not simply run into a few hot nights. Rainiel Rodriguez remains No. 1. Liam Doyle remains No. 2. Joshua Báez remains No. 3. That part of the board does not need to be overthought. Rodriguez brings premium age, position and production. Doyle still owns one of the best left-handed power arms in the system. Báez has made his Triple-A power impossible to ignore.After that, the board begins to shift.This reset considers current level, age, proximity, positional value, health, performance, scouting background and momentum. It is not a hot-sheet ranking built on one good week, and it is not a spring-training list frozen in time. It is a living board, and by July, baseball has given us enough information to begin moving names up and down.As of July 1, 2026, here is the updated Cardinal Chronicle Top 30.#1 - Rainiel Rodriguez, C, Double-ARodriguez remains the top prospect on this board because the combination of age, position and production is too strong to ignore. A teenage catcher producing against advanced competition carries premium prospect value. The power has not fully exploded yet, but the offensive foundation is strong, the approach continues to show maturity, and the position makes the profile even more valuable. (MLB No. 1)#2 - Liam Doyle, LHP, Double-ADoyle remains near the top because the arm still plays at a high level, even if the early numbers have been uneven. The ERA and WHIP have not matched top-prospect expectations, but the strikeout ability is still there. The ranking is driven by upside, fastball quality and left-handed power, but the gap between Doyle and the rest of the upper tier has narrowed. His offensive consistency still needs to take another step, but the age, level and position keep him firmly in the upper tier. (MLB No. 5)#7 - Jurrangelo Cijntje, RHP, Double-ACijntje stays in the top 10 because the upside remains significant. The Double-A transition has not been seamless, but the strikeout ability keeps the talent in plain sight. The switch-pitching profile is more than a novelty when the stuff backs it up, but the performance still has to catch up before he can push higher again. (MLB No. 4)#8 - Brandon Clarke, LHP, Double-AClarke remains a top-10 prospect because the raw ingredients are still strong. The left-handed profile, size and breaking-ball quality keep him in the conversation even without a dominant statistical case. This ranking is still more projection than production, but the long-term upside remains too good to discount. (MLB No. 7)#9 - Tekoah Roby, RHP, Triple-ARoby stays inside the top 10 because the arm still carries real prospect weight. The health and performance questions prevent him from climbing higher, but previous scouting value and proximity to St. Louis keep him relevant. This is not a momentum ranking. The strikeout ability supports the move, and left-handers who can miss bats in Double-A deserve more than a back-end ranking. The command still has to sharpen, but the arm is too interesting to bury. (MLB No. 26)#13 - Mason Molina, LHP, Triple-AMolina continues to move the right direction. His climb to Triple-A changes the conversation, because performance at the upper levels has to matter. The production has not fully answered every question, but the overall package is still one of the better position-player bets in the system. He is not a finished product, but he belongs in the top half. (MLB No. 17)#16 - Yhoiker Fajardo, RHP, High-AFajardo remains one of the more interesting arms in the system because the strikeout ability is real. The WHIP and command profile still need to improve, but pitchers who miss bats at his age and level deserve patience. (MLB No. 11)#17 - Blaze Jordan, 1B/3B, MLBJordan is one of the more difficult placements on the board because the bat has clearly pushed the issue. The defensive and positional questions remain, but the offensive production forced a major re-evaluation. He is not ranked this high because of projection. He is ranked this high because at some point, a hitter has to get credit for hitting. (MLB No. 25)#18 - Brycen Mautz, LHP, Triple-AMautz stays in the top 20 because he is a left-hander getting outs near the majors. The profile may not scream future star, but there is value in proximity, role flexibility and a usable upper-level arm. He is one of the more practical names on the board. (MLB No. 20)#19 - Deniel Ortiz, 1B/3B, Double-AOrtiz remains in the top 20, but he is being asked to prove more with the bat. The corner profile demands offensive production, and that keeps the pressure on. The previous prospect value and physical tools keep him ranked, but the next move has to come from performance. (MLB No. 22)#20 - Chen-Wei Lin, RHP, Double-ALin remains in the top 20 because strikeouts at Double-A matter. His size and swing-and-miss ability give him a real case, even if the command and consistency still need to catch up. There is enough here to stay interested, but the gap between stuff and results has to narrow. Middle infielders with offensive production always deserve attention, especially when they begin to separate themselves from the lower-level crowd. This is a performance-driven placement. (MLB NR)#22 - Ryan Mitchell, OF/SS, Single-AMitchell remains one of the better upside plays in the lower levels. The tools and age still make him a very interesting prospect, but the current production case is not strong enough to push him into the upper half. He remains a top-25 name because the upside is still real. (MLB No. 10)#23 - Emanuel Luna, OF, DSLLuna is a projection ranking. The age, physicality and long-term offensive upside keep him on the board, but he is still a long way from St. Louis. Players producing in full-season ball have moved ahead of him for now, but the ceiling keeps him from slipping too far. (MLB No. 18)#24 - Jesús Báez, INF, High-ABáez holds his spot because the power remains his carrying tool. The offensive profile still needs polish, and consistency remains the separator between upside and reality. Still, impact power from the infield keeps him firmly inside the Top 30. (MLB No. 19)#25 - Jack Gurevitch, 1B, High-AGurevitch has earned his place on the board with the bat. The first-base profile means the offensive bar is high, but his production has made him more than a name at the back of the list. The next test is whether the power continues to play as he climbs. (MLB No. 28)#26 - Luis Gastelum, RHP, Triple-AGastelum remains ranked because proximity has value. He is not the highest-upside arm on the board, but he is pitching at Triple-A and remains close enough to St. Louis to matter. This is more of a depth-and-readiness ranking than a breakout endorsement. A Hidden Asset in Memphis The Cardinal Chronicle St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurBruce Zimmermann is not the kind of name that usually drives headlines.He is not a top prospect. He is not on the Cardinals’ 40-man roster. He is not a hard-throwing young arm being rushed through the system with a spotlight attached to every outing.But that does not mean he cannot matter.Zimmermann, a 31-year-old left-hander with major-league experience, may be one of the more interesting hidden assets sitting at Triple-A Memphis. The Cardinals signed him to a minor league contract before the season, and he has spent the year giving the Redbirds exactly what veteran depth arms are supposed to provide: innings, strikeouts, stability and insurance.Through his current work with Memphis, Zimmermann is 5-3 with a 4.09 ERA, 78 strikeouts and a 1.31 WHIP over 72.2 innings. That is not the profile of a future ace, and nobody should pretend otherwise. But it is the profile of a pitcher who has kept himself relevant.For a Cardinals club trying to navigate the second half of the season, that matters.Zimmermann has already been to the big leagues. He has appeared in 39 major-league games, including 28 starts, across parts of five seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers. His career major-league numbers are not flashy — 8-11 with a 5.64 ERA over 164.1 innings — but that is only part of the story.The value here is not built around upside.It is built around usefulness.Zimmermann knows what a major-league clubhouse looks like. He has started games. He has worked in relief. He has been the call-up, the depth arm, the emergency starter and the veteran trying to keep a pitching staff from getting exposed when injuries or doubleheaders start squeezing the roster.There is a place for that kind of pitcher.The Cardinals’ rotation picture has been in constant motion this season. Young arms are being evaluated. Veterans are trying to hold their spots. Prospects are pushing toward Memphis. Injuries, workload concerns and performance swings can change the entire plan in a hurry.That is where Zimmermann becomes interesting.He gives the Cardinals a left-handed option who can cover innings without forcing the organization to rush a younger pitcher before he is ready. He could fit as a spot starter, a bulk reliever or a temporary second-half depth piece if the big-league staff needs help.There is also a roster catch.Zimmermann is not currently on the 40-man roster, and because he is out of minor league options, the Cardinals could not simply select him, use him for a day and send him back to Memphis without exposing him to waivers. That makes the decision more complicated.But it also makes the evaluation more important.If the Cardinals believe Zimmermann can help, they would likely need to view him as more than a one-day patch. He would need to be the kind of arm they are comfortable carrying for a stretch, especially if the club needs length, a left-handed matchup option or protection behind a rotation that still has questions.His pitching style fits that kind of role.Zimmermann is not overpowering. He works more with pitchability, sequencing and location than pure velocity. His fastball generally sits around 90 mph, but he mixes in a slider, changeup, sinker, cutter and curveball. He has to change speeds. He has to move the ball. He has to keep hitters from sitting on one look.That profile comes with little margin for error, but it can also be useful when executed well.And in Memphis, he has continued to miss bats. Seventy-eight strikeouts in 72.2 innings is enough to keep the conversation alive. For a veteran left-hander sitting outside the 40-man roster, that is exactly what he needed to do.The Cardinals do not have to force this.Zimmermann does not need to be pushed into a role just because he is pitching well enough to notice. But he should not be ignored either. There are seasons when organizations get real value from the quiet depth pieces, the pitchers who are not part of the original plan but are ready when the original plan starts taking on water.That may be Zimmermann’s lane.He is not the future of the Cardinals’ rotation. He is not blocking a top prospect. He is not the shiny new arm fans are waiting to see.But he is experienced. He is left-handed. He is stretched out. He is pitching every fifth day in Memphis. And he has enough major-league background to be taken seriously if the Cardinals need help in the second half.Sometimes the most useful pieces are not the loudest ones.Bruce Zimmermann may be one of those pieces.A hidden asset in Memphis, and possibly, before this season is over, a pitcher the Cardinals may need. Cardinal Chronicle MiLB Player of the Day: Jesús Báez St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurJesús Báez Brings the Thunder in Springfield’s Walk-Off WinJesús Báez did not get the final swing Wednesday night.He just made sure Springfield lived long enough to get it.The Springfield Cardinals pulled off one of their best wins of the season, rallying from an 8-4 deficit in the 10th inning to beat the Arkansas Travelers 9-8 at Route 66 Stadium. Rainiel Rodriguez delivered the walk-off single, Dakota Harris tied the game with a two-run base hit, and the Cardinals emptied the tank in a comeback that had no business happening.But Báez supplied the thunder that kept the door open.The 20-year-old infielder homered twice, including a game-tying blast in the seventh inning and another home run in the 10th as Springfield began climbing out of a four-run hole. It was his third straight game with a home run, making him only the second Springfield player this season to homer in three consecutive games, joining Won-Bin Cho.That is how a young hitter starts getting noticed for the right reasons.Báez has long carried power as his calling card. The swing can be loud, the impact can be real, and when he gets into one, the baseball tends to leave in a hurry. The question has always been how consistently the offensive profile would show up as he climbed the ladder.This week, it has shown up in a big way.Wednesday night was not just about one swing. It was about timing. Báez tied the game in the seventh, then helped ignite the 10th-inning rally when Springfield was staring at a four-run deficit. Those are the at-bats that matter. Anyone can pad a line in a quiet inning. Báez did his damage when the Cardinals needed it most.Springfield’s win was a full-club effort. Tre Richardson III homered. Harris delivered the tying swing. Rodriguez finished it with the walk-off single. The bullpen gave the Cardinals a chance. But Báez’s two-homer night was the offensive engine that made the comeback possible.That matters in development.At Double-A, pitchers adjust quickly. Holes get tested. Mistakes are fewer. For a power-hitting young infielder, the challenge is not simply showing raw strength. It is finding the right pitches to punish and doing damage when the game calls for it.Báez did that Wednesday.His power helped turn a game that looked lost into a game Springfield stole.
