About Ray Mileur
I have been a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan for over 60 years, blending my lifelong passion with formal baseball training as a graduate of the Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW) Baseball General Management and Scouting Course and as a certified Cal Ripken Baseball coach. My approach combines education and decades of firsthand observation and analysis.
The SMWW Baseball GM/Scouting course is a fully accredited online program offering advanced instruction in player performance evaluation, sabermetrics, major league scouting, and the essential tools used by today’s general managers and scouts. This experience deepened my understanding of the game at every level.
In 1988, I launched The Birdhouse website and weekly newsletter to cover the Cardinals. What began as a fan site grew into a nationally recognized platform, drawing more than 10 million visitors before joining Scout.com and FOX Sports. The Birdhouse was honored at Scout.com’s annual national convention in Las Vegas as the leading content producer within its MLB network.
As a former senior writer at e-Sports, my work has also appeared on MLB.com, FOXSports.com, FSN Midwest, FSN Midwest Daily Wire, and in several Fox Sports and Scout.com prospect magazines.
One of the highlights of my writing career came in 2008, when the family of Hall of Fame manager Billy Southworth invited me to represent them at the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Cooperstown, New York.
After that season, I stepped away from writing about the game.
Now, twenty years after Opening Day 2006 — when thousands of commemorative posters were distributed at the opening of the new Busch Stadium by Mileur Media Group — Ray returns to the keyboard.
Welcome to The Cardinal Chronicle, where the love for Cardinals baseball is celebrated every day.
As we celebrate the 144th season of Cardinals baseball and the 20th anniversary of Busch Stadium, The Cardinal Chronicle is dedicated to preserving the past, chronicling the present, and projecting the future—from Busch Stadium to the minor league backfields. Here, you’ll find stories, analysis, and reflections that honor the game’s rich tradition while keeping an eye on what’s next.
This isn’t about noise, hot takes, or chasing headlines. It’s about the game itself—its history, its fundamentals, and the players who carry it forward.
I cover the Cardinals the old-fashioned way: with perspective, respect, and a clear understanding of what “The Cardinal Way” truly means in every season.
If you love Cardinals baseball—past, present, and future—you’re in the right place.
Let’s enjoy the game together.
