His weekly slash line checked in at .391, with a massive 1.504 OPS.That is serious production.The power is the headline, and it should be. Five home runs in five games is not something you brush past. That is impact damage. That is changing games. That is putting pressure on opposing pitchers every time his spot in the order comes around.Weingartner did more than just hit the ball over the fence. The Cardinal Chronicle Daily Brief - Come Hell or High Water Monday, June 29, 2026 St. Louis, MO The Cardinals get a needed reset day today.And they earned it the hard way.St. Louis avoided a sweep Sunday with a 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins, snapping a four-game losing streak and keeping itself on the right side of the National League Wild Card line. That matters. There are no style points in June baseball, and after the way the homestand had been trending, the Cardinals needed a win more than they needed a pretty box score.Bryan Torres supplied the biggest swing of the day with a two-run home run in the second inning. Kyle Leahy gave the Cardinals five steady innings, allowing just one run, and the bullpen made it stand. JoJo Romero, Ryne Stanek, George Soriano and Riley O’Brien combined for four scoreless innings, with O’Brien closing it out for his 20th save.That is the formula this team needs more often.Get enough starting pitching. Scratch across runs. Not just because of one line in a box score. Not just because of one strong month.Odle is becoming one of the more interesting pitching developments in the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league system, and Sunday’s performance for High-A Peoria was another reminder that his name belongs in the prospect conversation.The Peoria Chiefs lost 6-5 to the Beloit Sky Carp on Sunday afternoon at ABC Supply Stadium, settling for a series split. Cade McGee carried the offense with a loud day at the plate, but Odle’s outing should not get buried under the final score.For four innings, Odle looked every bit like a rising arm.He cruised through the first four scoreless frames and struck out five along the way. The rhythm was there. The swing-and-miss was there. The presence was there. He looked like a pitcher with a plan and the stuff to back it up.Beloit eventually got to him with the long ball, and that matters. This was not a perfect start. And perhaps most importantly, he has started to look less like a project and more like a pitcher with a real developmental path.That is a big difference.The Cardinals selected Odle in the 14th round of the 2023 draft out of Orange Coast College. That alone makes his emergence important. Every organization needs its top picks to hit, but the good organizations find value deeper in the draft. They uncover arms. They develop traits. They turn overlooked pitchers into real prospects.Odle is giving the Cardinals a chance to do exactly that.His story also comes with some patience built in. He missed time early in his professional career, and his path has not been a straight line. That can cause a player to fall into the background. Other names get more attention. Higher picks get more space. Bonus babies get the benefit of the doubt.But performance has a way of kicking the door open.Odle has kicked.The most encouraging part is that this does not feel like smoke and mirrors. He is not simply riding soft contact and good fortune. He is missing bats at a level that demands attention. Eight strikeouts once is a good night. Eight strikeouts in back-to-back starts is a signal.Now the next step is refinement.That is where the Cardinals will have to be honest in their evaluation. Mason Molina is gaining steam with steady Double-A work.Odle may not have entered the year in that same spotlight.He is walking into it now.That does not mean the Cardinals should rush him. There is no need for that. Let him keep building at Peoria. Let him keep racking up innings. Let him keep learning how to survive the one bad swing, the one bad inning, the one mistake that changes a line.But the organization also needs to recognize what is happening.Jacob Odle is quickly becoming a real top tier prospect.Sunday was another example. The Cardinal Chronicle Minor League Pitcher of the Day: Darlin Saladin&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurDarlin Saladin did not get the headline swing Sunday afternoon.Won-Bin Cho took care of that.But Saladin helped make sure Cho’s swing still mattered.Saladin is The Cardinal Chronicle’s Minor League Pitcher of the Day after delivering three scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Springfield’s 7-6 walk-off win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at Route 66 Stadium.This was not a clean game early.Springfield needed pitching stability, and Saladin gave it to them.The right-hander entered in relief of Jurrangelo Cijntje and changed the direction of the game. Saladin worked three shutout innings, allowing just one hit while walking two. He did not let the game get away. He did not let Northwest Arkansas stretch the lead. He gave the Cardinals room to breathe.That matters.A lot.In the minor leagues, the attention usually goes to the starter who piles up strikeouts or the closer who records the final out. But there are games when the most important pitching performance comes in the middle innings. Sunday was one of those games.Springfield trailed 6-3 before scoring the final four runs of the game. That comeback does not happen without the bullpen putting up zeroes.Saladin started that work.Michael Watson, Nelfy Ynfante and Andrew Schultz finished it, combining for 3.1 more scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
