Springfield produced the wildest finish of the night, scoring seven runs in the eighth inning to beat Amarillo 9-5. Peoria fell behind early at South Bend and could not recover in a 6-3 loss. Palm Beach was held without a hit in a 7-0 loss to St. Lucie.Memphis Redbirds Record: 39-25, International League Standings: Tied near the top of the International League first-half race Result: Memphis 11, Norfolk 4Memphis opened its six-game road trip in Norfolk with one of its better offensive nights of the season, beating the Tides 11-4 at Harbor Park.The Redbirds trailed 2-0 entering the fifth inning, then flipped the game with one big frame. Cole Mathis opened the scoring with a solo home run, and later in the frame, Kane Kepley hit a three-run homer to give the Cubs a 4-0 lead.That put Peoria in chase mode the rest of the night.The Chiefs did answer in the fourth inning with back-to-back home runs from Cade McGee and Josh Kross. McGee’s solo shot was his eighth of the season and his fifth home run in five games. Kross followed on the very next pitch with a line-drive homer to center.That gave Peoria some life, but the Chiefs could not deliver the big hit with runners on base. Peoria finished 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position, and that tells the story.South Bend added two more runs in the seventh to stretch the lead to 6-2. Jesús Báez drove in Anyelo Encarnación with an RBI double in the ninth, but the rally stopped there.Peoria had been red-hot entering the series after sweeping Beloit, but South Bend reminded everyone why it sits at the top of the division. The Chiefs still have a chance to make the first-half race interesting, but Tuesday’s loss makes the climb much steeper.Palm Beach Cardinals Record: 30-28, 2nd Place, 3.0 GB, Florida State League East Result: St. Lucie 7, Palm Beach 0Palm Beach opened its homestand with one of the hardest nights a lineup can have.The Cardinals were no-hit by the St. Lucie Mets in a 7-0 loss Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It was the ninth no-hitter in Minor League Baseball this season and the second in the Florida State League.It was also the third time Palm Beach has been held without a hit in franchise history, and the first time since May 10, 2022, against Fort Myers.There is no way to dress that one up.St. Lucie’s pitching controlled the night from start to finish, and Palm Beach never found the swing it needed to break through. The home runs are the biggest concern. At Triple-A, mistakes in the zone do not come back gently. They leave the yard.Rajcic has been a useful organizational arm and has shown he can handle important innings, but this was not a good week for his stock. Short outings with multiple home runs allowed are hard to dress up.The walk total was not the problem. The issue was damage. Won-Bin Cho continues to show impact with the bat and on the bases. Mason Molina remains steady at Double-A, which is no small thing.The falling group is more of a weekly correction than a long-term alarm. Ty Van Dyke still missed bats but lost command. Braden Davis still has left-handed strikeout value but needs steadier innings. Max Rajcic was hurt by the long ball at Triple-A.That is the farm system. Some players push forward. The Cardinal Chronicle St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurCardinals Promote Rising Right-Handed Prospect Xavier Cruz to Palm BeachThe St. Louis Cardinals have promoted right-handed pitching prospect Xavier Cruz from the Florida Complex League to Single-A Palm Beach, giving one of the system’s more intriguing lower-level arms his first full-season assignment.Cruz, 20, is not just another name moving up the organizational ladder. He has quickly become one of the more interesting pitching developments in the Cardinals’ system, and Baseball America’s updated rankings now have him listed as the No. 24 prospect in the organization.That is a notable jump for a young arm who is still relatively new to pitching.Cruz has made a strong stateside impression in the FCL this season. Over five appearances, he has posted a 3.52 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 15.1 innings, along with a 1.04 WHIP. The strikeout total is the part that jumps off the page.Originally signed out of the Dominican Republic for $200,000 in January 2023, Cruz began his professional career after converting from shortstop to the mound. He spent his first two seasons developing in the Dominican Summer League before coming stateside in 2026.The raw stuff explains the ranking.Cruz features a mid-to-upper-90s four-seam fastball with premium riding life, giving him the kind of power pitch that can miss bats at any level if he continues to command it. He also pairs the heater with a mid-80s sweeper that generates high spin, along with a low-80s curveball that gives him another breaking-ball look. His changeup remains a work in progress, but the foundation is already there for a legitimate starter’s mix.The biggest question now is refinement.Cruz has the raw stuff to move quickly if the command keeps improving. He has already shown better strike-throwing ability in 2026, and the promotion to Palm Beach should give the Cardinals a clearer look at how his arsenal plays against more advanced hitters in full-season ball.For Palm Beach, Cruz adds another high-upside arm to a pitching staff that has already been worth watching this season. For the Cardinals, this is the kind of development that matters deep in the system — a young arm, signed internationally, gaining velocity, adding pitch shape, missing bats and earning a promotion.There is still plenty of distance between Palm Beach and St. Louis, and young pitchers rarely travel a straight road. But Cruz has put himself firmly on the radar and another arm for the Cardinals and their fans to follow.
