The offense put up 12 runs on 16 hits, but Doyle made sure Arkansas never had much of a chance to answer.He allowed only one hit over five innings and missed bats throughout the outing.The strikeout total was the story. Nine strikeouts in five innings speaks to the quality of the stuff, and it helped launch a dominant night for the Springfield pitching staff. Rainiel Rodriguez is one of the top prospects in the organization. Leo Bernal is producing at Triple-A. The Cardinals have built real depth behind the plate.But Campos keeps giving the system a reason not to forget about him.On Wednesday night, the Springfield catcher was right in the middle of a 12-2 win over Arkansas, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.His final line: 3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, BBThat is a full night.Campos reached base four times, hit his 12th home run of the season, drove in runs 55, 56 and 57, and scored three times as Springfield pounded out 16 hits.For a catcher, that kind of offensive production matters and his defense has been solid.Campos is not always the first name mentioned when people talk about the Cardinals’ catching depth, but maybe he should be mentioned more often. Ryan Campos earned Player of the Day honors after going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk, while Liam Doyle earned Pitcher of the Day honors after striking out nine over five innings.Palm Beach also picked up a win, Memphis dropped its second straight, and Peoria lost its fifth in a row.The full-season affiliates finished 2-2.Memphis Redbirds — Triple-A Overall Record: 67-55 Second Half: 20-27, 8th in the International League West, 9.0 GB Streak: L2Jacksonville 5, Memphis 4Memphis had the lead, but Jacksonville put together the decisive inning.The Redbirds led 4-1 after four innings before the Jumbo Shrimp scored four runs in the sixth and held on for a 5-4 win at AutoZone Park.Memphis managed only four hits, but Thomas Saggese supplied the big swing. Saggese went 1-for-2 with his 10th home run, three RBIs and two walks.Victor Scott II tripled for the second straight day, walked and stole his 17th base. Leo Bernal singled, walked and scored. Nolan Gorman singled and scored. Brody Moore walked, scored and stole two bases.On the mound, Jurrangelo Cijntje allowed one earned run over four innings, striking out four and walking three. The middle innings were the problem, as Ryan Murphy and Brycen Mautz were charged with four runs in the sixth.The back end of the bullpen was sharp. Hernandez raised his average to .307 and OPS to 1.016.Caden Ferraro had one of Peoria’s four hits, while Andrew Williamson also singled. THE CARDINAL CHRONICLE Winn, Leahy Lead Cardinals Past Reds St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurCINCINNATI — Masyn Winn homered, doubled twice and helped anchor the defense behind Kyle Leahy, who earned his 10th win as the St. Louis Cardinals shut out the Cincinnati Reds, 3-0, Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park.The Cardinals, coming off a split in Monday’s doubleheader, got five scoreless innings from Leahy and four more from the bullpen. Riley O’Brien handled the ninth for his National League-leading 32nd save, giving St. Louis another clean finish in a game that mattered in the middle of a five-game series.Leahy allowed three hits, walked none and struck out six over five innings. He threw 90 pitches, 57 for strikes, and kept Cincinnati from turning limited traffic into any real pressure. The Reds finished with only three hits and went scoreless for the night after scoring late to win Monday’s second game in extra innings.Winn gave the Cardinals the lead in the fifth, sending a solo home run to left field off Andrew Abbott. It was his fifth homer of the season and the first run of a game that had been controlled by both starters through four innings.St. Louis added another run in the seventh when Winn doubled to left and scored on José Fermín’s double to deep left, stretching the lead to 2-0. The Cardinals pushed it to 3-0 in the eighth after Jordan Walker reached on an infield single, Alec Burleson doubled him to third and Joshua Báez lifted a sacrifice fly to center.That was enough for the pitching staff.Ryne Stanek worked a perfect sixth after Leahy exited. Gordon Graceffo allowed a walk but got through the seventh, and George Soriano worked a clean eighth before O’Brien entered in the ninth. O’Brien closed it out, giving the Cardinals another save from the right-hander who continues to lead the National League.The bullpen combined for four hitless innings, allowing only one walk and striking out two. For a club playing its third game in two days, that kind of relief work mattered.Winn was the difference offensively and defensively. He finished 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits, two runs scored and an RBI, and he also supplied a couple of highlight-reel plays at shortstop that helped preserve the shutout. The box score will show the homer and the two doubles, but his glove was part of the story as well.The Cardinals had other chances but did not break the game open. They finished with seven hits, left seven men on base and struck out eight times. JJ Wetherholt and Iván Herrera each went hitless at the top of the order, but the bottom third of the lineup gave St. Louis the production it needed. Winn drove the offense, Fermín added the RBI double, and Pedro Pagés reached twice with a single and a walk.Abbott kept Cincinnati close, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.1 innings. He walked two and struck out six, but Winn’s homer in the fifth and the seventh-inning rally put the Reds behind. Zach Maxwell allowed the final run over 2.2 innings.Cincinnati had its best early chance in the first after Sal Stewart singled with one out, but Leahy struck out JJ Bleday and Eugenio Suárez to end the inning. Ke’Bryan Hayes singled in the third, and Dane Myers opened the fifth with a single, but the Reds never found the extra-base hit or sustained inning they needed.Elly De La Cruz went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts one night after delivering his first career walk-off hit. Tyler Stephenson struck out three times, and the Reds struck out eight times overall.For the Cardinals, the win was a strong response after Monday night’s missed opportunity. They had let a 4-1 lead slip away in the second game of the doubleheader, but came back Tuesday with a shutout, a sharp start, another O’Brien save and one of Winn’s best all-around games of the season.The Cardinals did not need a big inning. THE CARDINAL CHRONICLE Game Day Preview: Liberatore Draws Tough Assignment as Cardinals Look to Clinch Series in Cincinnati St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurThe St. Louis Cardinals will have an opportunity to clinch their five-game series against the Cincinnati Reds tonight at Great American Ball Park, but they will have to beat one of the National League’s best pitchers to do it.First pitch for Game 4 of the series is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. CT. Left-hander Matthew Liberatore will start for St. Louis against Cincinnati right-hander Chase Burns.St. Louis Cardinals: LHP Matthew Liberatore, 5-10, 5.07 ERA, 116 strikeouts Cincinnati Reds: RHP Chase Burns, 14-2, 2.47 ERA, 151 strikeoutsThe Cardinals enter at 65-62 after a 3-0 victory Tuesday night gave them a two-games-to-one advantage in the series. Cincinnati fell to 60-66.St. Louis also moved within three games of San Diego for the final National League Wild Card position. Arizona sits one game ahead of the Cardinals, while Philadelphia currently holds the second Wild Card.The Cardinals have won seven of their last 10, and what began as a five-game series that presented an opportunity against a team below .500 has gone reasonably well through the first three games. St. Louis split Monday’s doubleheader before Kyle Leahy and the bullpen shut down Cincinnati on Tuesday.Leahy earned his 10th victory, lowering his ERA to 3.24, while Riley O’Brien finished the shutout with his 32nd save.Masyn Winn supplied most of the offense, collecting three extra-base hits for the first time in his career. He doubled twice and hit his fifth home run of the season, while José Fermín added an RBI double and Joshua Báez drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.Winn also made one of the defensive plays of the night, sliding to his left to take away a hit in the eighth inning.It was a clean, efficient victory — good starting pitching, enough offense and no late-inning drama.The Cardinals could use more of the same tonight, although Burns represents a considerably greater challenge.The 23-year-old has emerged as a National League Cy Young Award candidate in his second Major League season. Burns is 14-2 with a 2.47 ERA over 23 starts, striking out 151 in 131 innings. Cincinnati is 17-6 when he starts.Burns rebounded from a rare poor outing earlier this month by throwing seven scoreless innings against Miami on Friday. He allowed four singles, did not walk a batter and struck out eight in a 1-0 Cincinnati victory.This will be his first career start against the Cardinals.Burns combines premium velocity with the ability to miss bats throughout the strike zone, and the Cardinals cannot afford to give him easy innings. St. Louis has been better offensively during its recent stretch, but Burns is capable of taking over a game if hitters begin chasing or consistently fall behind in counts.The Cardinals do not need to abandon their aggressiveness. They need to be selective about it.Burns throws enough strikes that waiting endlessly for walks is unlikely to be a winning approach. When he leaves a fastball in the hitting zone, the Cardinals need to be ready. At the same time, expanding the zone against his breaking pitches will allow him to work through the lineup quickly.St. Louis has enough power to make a mistake costly.Jordan Walker and Alec Burleson have carried much of that responsibility throughout the season, while Báez has added another legitimate power threat since his promotion from Triple-A Memphis. JJ Wetherholt continues to set the table near the top of the order, and Winn’s performance Tuesday provided another reminder that the Cardinals are more dangerous when production comes from throughout the lineup.Báez will continue to be one of the more closely watched hitters.After becoming the first player in Major League history to homer three times in his debut, opposing pitchers have quickly adjusted to the rookie. He has seen fewer pitches in the middle of the plate and more attempts to get him to expand the strike zone.That is the next stage of his development.The three-home-run debut showed everyone what the power can become. The next several weeks will show how quickly Báez can adjust when Major League pitchers stop giving him pitches he wants to hit.Liberatore has his own adjustment to make tonight.The left-hander is coming off a solid performance against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, where he struck out six over 5 1/3 innings. His overall season numbers remain disappointing, but his stuff has looked better in recent outings.The challenge has been familiar.Liberatore needs to avoid the one inning that turns a competitive start into a short one.His 116 strikeouts show that he can miss Major League bats. The 5.07 ERA shows that too many mistakes are still being punished.That margin becomes even smaller at Great American Ball Park.Cincinnati has several right-handed hitters capable of doing damage against a left-hander, including Sal Stewart, Eugenio Suárez, Tyler Stephenson and Ke’Bryan Hayes. Elly De La Cruz remains dangerous from either side of the plate and can change an inning with his speed even when he does not drive the baseball.Liberatore must work ahead and keep the Reds from building innings with walks.The Cardinals do not need him to match Burns strikeout for strikeout. They need five or six competitive innings and a chance for the offense to stay within striking distance.That may be enough.Burns has been outstanding, but baseball games are not decided by comparing ERAs before the first pitch. The Cardinals have already beaten plenty of pitchers with better numbers than the one taking the mound for St. Louis.They simply have to play better baseball for nine innings.A victory tonight would give the Cardinals their third win in four games in Cincinnati and clinch the series before Thursday afternoon’s finale. It would also keep pressure on the teams directly ahead of them in the Wild Card standings.A loss would leave the Cardinals needing Thursday’s finale to win the series.That makes tonight another important game without needing to manufacture anything more dramatic.The Cardinals are 65-62.They are three games out of a playoff spot.They have won seven of 10.And they have put themselves in position to win another road series.Now comes the hardest pitching matchup of the week.Matthew Liberatore gets the ball.Chase Burns will be waiting on the other side.Beat him, and the Cardinals leave themselves one more game Thursday to make an already successful trip to Cincinnati even better. The Cardinal Chronicle In the Spotlight: The Cardinals’ No. 1 Prospect; Rainel Rodriguez St. Louis, MO By Ray MileurThe Tools are Turning into ProductionRainiel Rodriguez is not just holding his place at the top of the Cardinals’ prospect list. He is strengthening the case.The Cardinals’ No. 1 prospect turned in another loud night at the plate, going 4-for-5 for Double-A Springfield and continuing a season that has been built on power, maturity and age-defying production from one of the most important young bats in the organization.At 19 years old, Rodriguez is already producing in Double-A, playing a premium position and carrying one of the loudest offensive profiles in the Cardinals’ system. Baseball Savant lists him as the Cardinals’ No. 1 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 12 overall prospect, a ranking that reflects both the bat and the scarcity of this kind of offensive upside behind the plate.&nbsp;That is what makes Rodriguez different.There are plenty of young hitters with power. There are plenty of catchers with defensive projection. There are very few teenage catchers producing like this in the upper minors.According to Baseball Savant’s available 2026 minor league data, Rodriguez has hit .299 with a .390 on-base percentage, .518 slugging percentage and .908 OPS across two levels this season, adding 22 doubles, 18 home runs, 61 RBI, 72 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. At Double-A Springfield, he has posted a .293/.373/.518 line with 14 home runs and 40 RBI.&nbsp;That is premium production for a 19-year-old catcher facing older competition.The bat remains the carrying tool, and the scouting grades support what the numbers are showing. Baseball Savant’s 2026 scouting report gives Rodriguez a 55 hit tool, 65 power, 55 arm and 60 overall grade. The report notes that he relies on strength and bat speed to punish baseballs, with a 104.2 mph 90th-percentile exit velocity at Single-A, while regularly elevating and pulling the ball for power.&nbsp;That is the heart of the profile. Rodriguez does not need a perfect swing to do damage. He has the strength to impact the baseball, the bat speed to catch up to velocity and the approach to keep himself from becoming a one-dimensional slugger.The power has been obvious since he entered professional baseball. Rodriguez debuted in the Dominican Summer League in 2024 and hit .345 with a .462 on-base percentage, .683 slugging percentage and 1.145 OPS, adding 10 home runs and 38 RBI in only 41 games. In 2025, he continued the climb by hitting .276/.399/.555 with 20 home runs and 63 RBI across three levels.&nbsp;The Cardinals challenged him again this season, and Rodriguez has responded.He opened the season at High-A Peoria and handled the level, batting .311/.430/.519 with four home runs, 21 RBI and nearly as many walks as strikeouts. MLB Pipeline noted in May that Rodriguez was the youngest player at High-A, more than three years younger than the average Midwest League player, while still producing as one of the top young sluggers in the minors.
