Milwaukee enters the matinee at 30-20, holding first place in the National League Central and sitting 1½ games ahead of second-place St. Louis, which comes in at 29-22 after a weather-disrupted weekend in Cincinnati.For the Cardinals, this is not just another holiday road game. It is an early measuring-stick series against the club currently setting the pace in the division. That is what makes the comparison interesting, not because the 2026 Cardinals are the 2011 Cardinals, but because Memorial Day weekend gives us a clean mile marker.And at this mile marker, the two clubs are close enough to make you look twice.The 2011 Cardinals came out of Memorial Day weekend at 32-22, sitting in first place in the National League Central after taking two of three from the Colorado Rockies at Busch Stadium. They were not perfect. They were not whole. St. Louis won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 8-1, before dropping the nightcap, 7-6, in 11 innings. Instead of getting a chance to take the series Sunday, the Cardinals packed up and moved on with one win, one loss, and one more game pushed deep into the summer schedule.The rainout also delayed what had shaped up as an important pitching day. Left-hander Brycen Mautz was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, while right-handers Matt Svanson and Ryan Fernandez were optioned back to Memphis.
